City attorneys tell elections office to waive deadline

Reversing course, Duval County will allow the Democratic and Republican parties three days to contact 1,522 people whose voter registration forms were incomplete after the Oct. 4 deadline.
The residents will have a chance to fix their applications and vote Nov. 2. The forms had been set aside, stopping the people from being registered to vote.

At least 44 percent are from black residents, and 30 percent white. More than 700 are from Democrats, and 250 from Republicans, according to the elections office.
The incomplete registrations are a sliver of the nearly 80,000 new registrations this year in the county. But the 537-vote state margin of the 2000 presidential election has magnified the importance of small numbers of voters.
