John Kerry has done a great thing for America....
....Just now on 'Meet the Press' they showed poll results asking Americans if they thought Homosexuality was a choice, the results were about 33% not a choice and 67% a choice. Then they asked if people thought that Kerry's comments were inappropriate and they got about 33% appropriate and 67% inappropriate.

What we have here is a situation where John Kerry knowingly went against public opinion in order to tell America something that he truly believes in. The result is that Americans are talking about it and they will continue to talk about it. I would bet that if the same question of choice/no choice were posed 6 months from now, we would be closer to 50/50. America is very ill informed about the Gay issue and John Kerry has helped a great deal.

1. Wrong question
Edited on Sun Oct-17-04 10:30 AM by SHRED
The moderator should have asked if the canidates thought sexual orientation was a choice.

Then ask them when was it they remember chosing heterosexuality!!

Kerry is a real uniter, not a divider.

14. I am sick and f**king tired
of this belief that gay and lesbian folks are somehow at best subhuman and deserve our "love and Jesus' love" and at worst, sinners bound for hell. WTF is wrong with the human race? What have we learned from pogroms, the holocaust, genocidal regimes, civil rights?

Many of my fellow humans scare the bejesus out of me.

Get over righteous selves for God's sake!

Choice my ass! Would YOU choose discrimination, hatred, beatings, second-class status?

Geez, sorry for the rant but this as in issue drives me nutty!

22. Actually they do worse than that
They don't preach love they preach tolerance. Tolerance is the reason the enthnic races co-exist but still don't toally get along. Tolerance is why you know Gays exist but you hate them for what they do in your hetero heart.

That's what I get from their teachings.

Fuck tolerance.

Acceptance, Love, Support, these are the things we should be preaching.

Just being tolerant of something doesn't make you supportive and caring.

3. Not the first time and won't be the last
What I've always admired about Kerry is his courage to speak out. I'm so old that I always think of Kerry as that mopheaded Vietnam War hero who spoke out so earnestly against the war. Nice to see that he's had a pretty illustrious career since then, too. Note how his challenger needs to speak in code (eg. "Dred Scott"). That's not leadership.

5. Your first number is wrong.
The first question is whether being Gay is a choice. 57% said no. 30 something said yes.

10. Bleachers7 is correct. You transposed the numbers on the first poll.
Been looking for a link or transcript and there is nothing up yet.

15. The entire premise of your post is wrong
Because you had the numbers backwards.

Most people think that being gay is NOT a choice. Read the poll again.

20. I did thanks - here is what it actually said...
..by the way, still proud of Kerry.

'MR. RUSSERT: Now, The Washington Post and ABC talked to Americans all across the country. Is homosexuality a choice? Yes, 33; no, 57. Was it appropriate for Senator Kerry to bring up Vice President Cheney's daughter? Appropriate, 33; not appropriate, 64. Should Senator Kerry apologize?'

21. Actually his premise was
that Kerry said what he believed even though it was unpopular, and the real poll results seem to support that premise even more than the incorrect ones he posted.

16. Jocelyn Elders did the same thing, in 1994...
Clinton, at the behest of the repukes, sacked her quicker than you could say "capitulate".

We need Kerry to win and THEN get people to think afterwards.
