Bayfield, WI resident recalls Navy service with John Kerry
Edited on Sun Oct-17-04 11:05 AM by RatTerrier
From a small town paper in Ashland, WI:

http://www.ashlandwi.com/placed/index.php?sect_rank=1&story_id=184998

"John Kerry was a fine junior officer, one of the best I ever served with. He was intelligent, responsible and hard-working," Kelly wrote recently in a website maintained for the crew of the Gridley.

"I thought Kerry had as many duties as several of the other junior officers put together, just because he seemed he could handle a lot, and was willing to do a lot." Aamodt said.

Kerry was also interested in the men he served with. Aamodt recalled one evening he served a midnight to 4 a.m. watch, when crewmen arrived in various degrees of intoxication. After the men were safely in their berths, Kerry had Aamodt go and check on the well being of three of the most inebriated.

"No other officer ever had me do that," Aamodt said.

Great article. Share it with friends and foes alike.

1. 'He's going to be president one day'
In the long bull sessions late at night while on watch, one sailor asked Kerry if he had thought about going into politics.
"He said there was a possibility," Aamodt said. "When he left CIC, the guy said, 'He's going to be president one day.'"

2. "...one of the most popular officers on board"
"...a young lieutenant from Massachusetts, an Ivy League blueblood who was nonetheless one of the most popular officers on board the sleek man-o'war. "

3. This exemplifies the difference between John Kerry and Bush .
Senator Kerry is diligent , hard-working , industrious , courageous , thoughtful , curious , considerate and perhaps above all , a good man .

George Bush is a spoilt , self-indulgent and indulged , ignorant , arrogant , closed-minded , unquestioning , thoughtless , indolent , blame-shirking , moronic , hate-filled , bigoted utter buffoon .

Please feel free to add any adjectives as you see fit .:)
