Bush campaign knocked on my door today!!!!
They asked me to vote for Bush because he will keep us safe and Kerry does not understand the threat of terrorism to our country.

I then said.....WHO THE FUCK WAS PREZ ON 911? Then I slammed the door on them!!!

Better to get straight to the point and not engage these folks--they're hopeless! If you'd let them respond, of course, they'd have said it was all Clinton's fault. Like I said...hopeless!

28. That was the first thing I thought.
Eat-up their time, thus preventing their spread.

I do this with telephone callers as well. I ask tons of "innocent" questions, sometimes casually inserting Democratic talking points (i.e, the truth) into the conversation. And at the end, I laugh at them and tell them they're hopeless.

It's a great way to demoralize their brownshirts.

29. My relatives do that for bitter, brutal sport
...and then they get together and compare notes. They love to tell the caller to hold, because the kettle is boiling, the UPS man is at the door, the dog needs to wee and needs to be let out, and then play the undecided voter and go through every damn issue in excruciating "Jeez, I'm DUMB!" fashion.

When they ask for money, the stories get even funnier. "Gee, I would love to help, but my unemployment ran out--I'm surprised they haven't cut off the phone yet, expecting it any day..." and that sort of thing.

But the two Kerry signs in my yard, and the two in my windows and the bumper stickers one our vehicles, probably dissuades them from entering my yard. That and a big Shepard. ;-)

31. Not even for local candidates?
A Kerry sign wouldn't stop anybody around here from supporting the state & local people. My area notoriously swings. I've had nobody for no Rep candidate at all.

Besides, my daughter live 2 blocks from me and she hasn't mentioned a Rep candidate either.

It makes me happy. Let me be happy.

In 2000, we had Bush signs everywhere. We've had a few more pop up in the last week, but it's been K/E all over the place otherwise. We had no idea we had so many Dems either! This is going to change everything for some time to come!

22. I haven't had a Bush visitor yet
I have had a few of the Republicans running for local office stop by. I don't think they felt very confident after leaving my doorstep. I was actually very saddened when they couldn't really articulate their positions and had to revert to the standard Papp answers. I called them on that too.

Just gotta take it one step at a time.

25. That Wasn't Too Clever
Edited on Sun Oct-17-04 05:53 PM by iamjoy
If you could keep from tossing your cookies, you could have told them you were undecided. Then, you should have tried to find a few positive things to say about Bush, or float a few concerns about Kerry.

Then, you should have watched them try to tell you how wonderful Bush is. And for every point, you should say, "yeah, but..." in a sort of uncertain voice, and bring up a counter arguement.

Basically, you should have tried to keep them at your door for as long as possible so they have less time to talk to other voters. I know Bush supporters have done it to me when I'm canvassing, and it can take time to pick up on it.

45. Of Course
I mean, sometimes these people frustrate me too. It's easy to think rationally from my den, harder when they're in your face. I do know when I canvass, I'm much more appreciative of the nice Bush supporters, but then I've stopped trying to shove Kerry in their face first thing. I generally identify myself as a volunteer with Kerry, then ask if he count on their support (not waste any time with a solid Bush or solid Kerry supporter). I don't even give the canned rhetoric to the undecideds, but ask what is important to them & try to adapt the message accordingly. As Monday morning quarterback as I act here, I'd probably lose my temper if some one came to my door telling a bunch of lies.

35. Here's what I do when the bush*bots come to the door
or any other Repigs.

I act really interested. I ask a bunch of questions about bush*'s positions on things. I get them talking. I take the literatuire and then read it out loud in front of them, asking questions, etc.

All-in-all I can keep them there for 10 minutes or more, before I tell them I wouldn't piss on bush* if he was on fire and they can get the fuck off my property.

I figure that wastes their time and keeps them from bothering a few other voters too.

You should express amazement at this "unknown" fact, and ask them for more information on what Bush will do for you. Perhaps invite them in for coffee!

(the longer they're spending time with you, the less time they're trying to convince someone else.....)

46. Did your personal hostility convert them?
While you obviously enjoyed your opportunity to vent your anger, you also helped seal them in further as Bush supporters. Always be polite to lower level campaign workers, even as you are firm in your beliefs. They may be willing to talk at length, (Although they are trained not to. ID the Democrats and move on.) and you may plant seeds of doubt that may sprout. Of course that does require you to be able to present a reasonable arguement beyond mere screaming. And there is always the possibility that they may convert you. There is always risk in the exchange of ideas.
