Bush campaigning in NJ: Beware, Rove is at it again
NJ is not up for grabs (late polls in 2000 showed the race much closer than it turned out, a 16-point Gore win); Rove is doing exactly what he did in 2000 when he had Bush campaign in California right before the election in an attempt to make the public think Bush had a big enough lead he could afford to spend time in a solid blue state. It was designed to create the aura of inevitability so Gore supporters would think he had no chance and stay home.

Of course, we know now the race was much closer that, and the strategy failed. This is 2000 all over again, and Rove is back to his old tricks.

Don't fall for it!

3. I live in NJ. I wish I could be so confident....
The number of Bush Cheney yard signs and bumper stickers outnumber K/E ones by easily 20-1 where I live (Morris County). Yes, my county trends republican, but still. It has me worried.

5. It's not confidence
NJ isn't worth worrying about because if Bush would win it that means he'd have a huge landslide anyway.

18. Yep. Even with the McGreevey situation, we would only lose NJ
if Bush were to win in a landslide, and everything suggests that won't happen.

NJ is a Dem stronghold, and the party is very united.

These polls showing a close NJ race are as valid as the CA polls showing a close race there in 2000.

6. I'm in Somerset, and there are no signs.
I've seen a handful of signs of any kind in this fairly Republican county (in 2000 there were plenty of Bush signs), and now there is a rough parity between the two sides, among the very few signs that I'm seeing.

8. Bush Gives Away Yard Signs, and ASKS People to Place Them
One thing that confounds the (already very unscientific) "yard-sign polls" is that the Kerry campaign charges for their yard signs while B/C gives them away.

Not only that, but B/C canvassers overtly ask people to put the signs up. They actually push people to put them up.

So it is expected that one would see more B/C signs, even if in reality there were more K/E supporters.

Rather have an idiot who would drive us deeper into debt and despair and sully our reputation further than give up some money for their Country.

23. Special Mission for the "Four Moms from NJ"
The "Four Moms from NJ" - 9/11 widows of great notoriety - have formally endorsed Kerry. They approached Kerry, not the other way around. They would seem like the perfect local champions for Kerry in NJ.

I really hope these polls are wrong and NJ is not even close. But everyone needs to do whatever they can to make sure this electoral prize goes to Kerry.

"More importantly, Bush also campaigned in several states...including Illinois and Pennsylvania. The effort in Illinois indicates the confidence the Bush campaign must feel with their overall position. The Bush campaign continues to run commercials in California..."

Of course the craven mediawhores fall or pretend to fall for KKKarls idiot hoodoo every time. The rest of us just chuckle and go about our merry way.

15. Illinois?????????
Where the hell did the asshole campaign in Illinois? If he bothered to spend time here, it couldn't have been just to show his confidence. He also had to be propping up a Congressional candidate ... but who?

13. I live in a Repub town in NJ
There are 1500 repubs, 1000 dems and the rest of the 7000 are independent. Both my neighbors are Repubs and have signs on their lawn. I think there are a lot of 'closet dems' and a lot of people who don't feel the need to advertise because they know Kerry will take NJ.

P.S. - I am going to have my kids egg their signs on mischief night. Just kidding :)

Edited on Sun Oct-17-04 10:29 PM by mconvente
Im in Bergen County and my town has more chimpy signs than kerry signs... like 7 popped up in one week alone... ugh, makes me sick. We got our Kerry/Edwards sign up though so we're holding our ground. There's about 5 K/E signs that I see normally and about 10-12 Shrub/Dickhead signs I see, but Bergen County (especially in the Northern part where I live) is solid repuke. But Bergen County should go Kerry anyways (props to Hackensack!)

19. Well, if they are repeating parts of their 2000 script,
I fully expect to see Judy Woodruff sadly and seriously intoning, the day before the election, how disinterested and apathetic the voting populace is. How a low turnout is expected. Yep, I remember that tactic too. How pathetic.

24. Oh for goodeness sakes
you saw a Bush bumber sticker. Do you not think there is at least a few Bush supporters there? Bumber stickers mean nothing. In NC the Kerry Edwards Bumber stickers outnumber the Bush ones. But it emans little.

I predict the Rove playing like NJ is in play will spark Dems who normally wouldn't vote because they think NJ is safe for Kerry to get out to vote just to be safe

25. Northern Jersey is solid Kerry country
Rove thinks that he can capitalize on the fear factor of 9/11. That only works in the red states in the middle of the country, who have little to fear, and I fear, shit for brains.
