URGENT: Ohio Dem Headquarters burglarized, could jeopardize election. |
|
http://counterspin.blogspot.com/2004/10/red-alert-gop-election-theft-in-ohio.htmlThe Lucas County Democratic Headquarters was burglarized overnight, and three computers, including the party's main system, were stolen.
...
The thieves knew exactly what to steal.
And, someone with knowledge of the situation informed me that the this will seriously hamper the Democrats' get out the vote efforts in Ohio, and may dampen Democratic turnout and possibly swing the state to Bush! Lucas County is heavily Democratic, and any drop off in voter participation there will be singularly damaging to John Kerry and the Democrats.
The suspicion is that this was an inside job, because there were no valuables taken by the thieves except the computers. The belief is that the GOP infiltrated the HQ, and orchestrated another Watergate style break-in.I hadn't heard about this? 4. The story has been posted before. |
|
The date on the Toledo Blade story is 10/12. Not to say it doesn't suck, and doesn't deserve attention -- but it isn't yet another burglary of an Ohio Dem party office, it's the same one that was posted previously.

All electronics crucial to the election should be either guarded or locked up in an undisclosed location until this crap is over. In all of the battleground states we need security, security, security. What were they thinking?

8. I agree, you don't leave that shit laying around. |

@$!%
I worked in banking for years, and you not only have a back up of EVERYTHING, but you lock up stuff of value.
I just read they're offering a reward.
The party is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. If the information is provided before the election, the reward is $5,000.

Dumbasses. sheesh. I am angry that the info was stolen, but also angry that these guys didn't do a better job of protecting and backing up their data.

But why couldn't they have gotten volunteers to man the office 24 hours a day?

13. It is so incredibly unlikely that the only placed they saved the data from |
|
Edited on Sun Oct-17-04 11:34 PM by AP
their calls/walks was on computers in their office.
In fact, it's unlikely they had the database anywhere but remotely.
And there's not much on those computers other than information that is available for purchase from the registrar of voters.
Of course, the Republicans could try to target likely Dem voters and try to convert them, but it would probably be a waste of time.
By the way, notice how Kerry is now talking to Republicans in OH for their votes.

Every night I would have had a backup stored somewhere, even if it was at a safe in a volunteer's house. DVD burners are cheap.

16. 1. Why wasn't this stuff kept under close guard? |
|
2. Why didn't the HQ have multiple back-ups of all information
3. How come the DNC isn't trying to get this out? I hear all the time about 'break-ins' to RNC offices.
