"Has any president ever been dealt a more difficult hand?" |
|
There is a Bush ad running here about how hard the boy king has had it since becoming president.
This ad annoys me so much...like people are supposed to vote for him out of pity!!!!
So, as an intellectual exercise and for our own amusement, which presidents have had worse "luck" in their first term?
Let's see...Lincoln: elected, a bunch of states seceded, then the Civil War.
What do you all think?

He had to evacuate the White House during the War of 1812 - the British burned it! Poor W only got to spend 40% of his time on vacation. What a tragedy.

What else has he had other than 9/11, which was done by 19 people?
Compare that to: secession of half the states, Cuban missle crisis, Vietnam war and civil rights struggle, the Great Depression and the axis war machine, dragging the country in to WWI.

Lincoln inheriting a nation torn apart and drifting into civil war. FDR inheriting the Great depression Truman inheriting World War II and wide ranging decisions such as the use of the Atomic Bomb. Eisenhower--inheriting the Korean War Nixon--inheriting the Vietnam War and discontent in the nation. Ford--inheriting a stagment economy and a nation torn by Watergate Clinton--inheriting mountain of debt and high unemployment
What did Bush inherit? a surplus and a strong economy and a world at peace. Why don't people "get it" that 9/11 happened under Bush's watch and he had been warned of this kind of attack and took no actions to try to prevent it.

FDR only had to deal with a small group of goofy Germans and Japanese. Wilson, having an even easier time, only had to deal with a couple of goofy Germans. Lincoln merely had to stop a argument between a couple of brothers. I could go on, but why? Our great leader, had to deal with an onslaught of vacation days, and that BRUSH, my god, he had to cut the brush!

You don't take the job if you are not prepared to deal with difficult circumstances. He wasn't applying for a fast food job.
Analogy: In the NFL if you are head coach and you don't win and your half of your team hates you, you are fired. Can't turn around and say, but I had a team full of scrubs.

16. Bush* made his hand... |
|
.... he ignored numerous credible warnings of an impending attack.
People need to remember - 911, the worst terrorist attack in our history, happened on Bush*'s watch.
Every president is dealt a tough hand, it's how they handle it that matters. Bush* has failed abjectly in every sphere.

Bush heard about the terrorist threats and went on vacation. If he thinks he has it tough he should speak to some of the people who's lives were ruined on 9/11/01, or over in Iraq. How this Chimp dares to air an ad full of whiny self-pity is beyond me. This refines my diagnosis to Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

Oh yeah, Bush has it so rough, we are now the ONLY superpower in the world. I would say all the Presidents from the 30's to the mid 80's had it a lot tougher.
What ever made him think he could do it in the first place.

has this guy been "dealt"? The only thing he was dealt was 9/11. Aside from that he inherited a surplus and half of Congress, which soon turned to a whole Congress. Everything else is the result of how he played his hand.

Dear Leader said he hit the trifecta! He was so pleased about it. Why does 'Murika hate our pResident so much?! **sniffle** I mean, how hard could the Cuban Missile Crisis have been for JFK? Was the Great Depression really all that difficult for FDR? Could the Iranian hostages have made it ANY easier for Jimmy Carter? Slackers, I tell you! **outrage!**
