Talking Points during Pulling Operations, Phone banking, Canvassing
1. Social Security will be privatized and only Wall Street will benefit - anyone collecting their social security checks will lose as much as 45% of their benefits.

2. New gas hikes are coming soon with the price of oil at $55 a barrel. This only helps Bush's Texas and Arab oil buddies.

3. A draft is coming to perpetuate the Iraq disaster and because Bush will be invading Iran and elsewhere soon to add to the Neo-con empire. Young men - off to boot camp you go. That's your choice - unemployment or boot camp.

4. The troika of evil, Osama/Zarqawi/Zawahiri, have never been caught.

5. The first President since the Depression to lose jobs.

6. 4 more years . . . of dirtier air and water.

7. Got a special needs kid? Forget it - that'll be cut too.

8. But the deficit won't be cut at all - Defense needs bigger and better contracts.

1. Well done.
And don't forget that our reputation has been destroyed, $200B's down the drain, 120,000 troops tied up in Iraq, 1,110 dead Americans...

2. And please, say it like you mean it, in your own words

4. I agree
First, you need to take a couple of points YOU want to emphasixe. You can't, on a phonecall, give them a sermon. Take a couple of the points you find most important, put it in your own words and when you have your time to talk go for it! If you get too long, you will sound like you are reading a script. Make it sound conversational, like you are talking to them instead of reading a script. Using your own words helps here. But remember to narrow the points down to a few that you can hit them hard on. I had a group of folks who earlier had been identified as leaning Nader. When it came time to talk, I talked about Bush's disastrous environmental record and mentioned the Supreme Court and the prospect of 3-4 Bush Justices serving for the next 20-30 years. That seemed to work pretty good.
With independents, I emphasized other issues.
