4. I just unsubbed from the Chi Trib, this news, plus the reaction I've
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 10:16 AM by lil-petunia
gotten from my calls to advertisers on Sinclair - it just makes my day. When TribCo endorse shrub, when Sinclair plays pol games and when GOP hirelings sign up dems, then throw out their voting registrations, I am mad. But now, glad.

Jerks, all.

40. I also cancelled my Chicago Tribune subscription
After stewing over their endorsement yesterday I decided to call them and cancel my subscription this morning. The Chicago Tribune always endorses the republican candidate for president but their contention that Bush will make us safer and considering the stakes in this election I could just not continue to support this newspaper and this kind of thinking with my money.

The lady in the subscription department probably wasn't that interested in my reasons why I was cancelling but she did tell me that her and her entire family are voting for Kerry. She also told me that they had received quite a few cancellation calls so far this morning.

I find it fascinating that Chicago votes 80% for Democrats but both daily newspapers are righ-wing Bush supporters. Ironically, the suburban Chicago newspaper, The Daily Herald, caters to the mostly republican voting northern suburbs but they have endorsed John Kerry.

In any event, looks like i'm going to get a subscription to the New York Times. I'll just have to sacrafice my local sports news

15. Got lettere from Lowe's and U.S. Cellular...they are pulling ads...
during the showing of the film and U.S. Cellular says also 2 hours before and afterwards.

Dear Valued Lowe's Customer,

Thank you for your comment regarding concerns about advertising on the Sinclair Broadcasting network. Lowe's does not advertise in political programming. We will not advertise within this political documentary, nor will the company's local advertising appear anytime during the day this documentary airs.

As far as advertising on the Sinclair group of stations as a whole, Lowe's advertising agency is in contact with Sinclair to learn more about the program, and our company will make a decision about future advertising at a later time.

Lowe's has a strict company policy specifying that its advertising is not to run in controversial programming. The company advertises primarily in national, network prime-time television programs and on select local stations and cable outlets. Because Sinclair owns 62 television stations reaching 24 percent of all television households, some Lowe's advertising may appear on those stations from time to time, but again, not in close proximity to the controversial documentary you mentioned.

We appreciate your contacting us, and hope this information addresses your concerns.

There is a God. Lurks on DU, and says we liberals don't care about the small investor. Says we all live in our parents' basements, smoke dope and have never accomplished anything. How's your portfolio lookin', there, sar-dude?)

Which translates to some very unhappy family members.

We can take down all the RW media propaganda outlets in this very same way. POX, CNN, etc.

The RW can't retaliate, because all of the major media outlets are RW propaganda machines.

53. It is IMPORTANT TO KEEP UP THE PRESSURE
...on Sinclair advertisers. I know they have the bulk email program, but if you have awareness of a local business that advertises with them, send them a VERY brief, heartfelt letter telling them why you can't patronize them any more, and also TELLING them WHERE YOU WILL SHOP INSTEAD. I have found those get a personal response, telling me that they are pulling their ads.
