Rove: Bush was "in the zone" during debates -US News
WASHINGTON--In his first debate he had been petulant, and in his second he had been pugnacious. Which meant there was one thing George W. Bush desperately needed to be in his third and final debate against John Kerry (news - web sites) last week. But how do you tell a president of the United States that he needs to be more presidential?

"We didn't need to tell him, " Karl Rove, Bush's chief political guru, told U.S. News . "He knew. He's a competitor. And he worked on it."
.........
Not everyone saw the debates that way, of course, including Rove, who thought Bush scored a decisive victory in the final debate. "He was in the zone," Rove says. Rove also promised that Bush wouldn't do what candidates usually do in the last weeks of a campaign: endlessly repeat their stump speech rather than risk making any mistakes. "Over the next 20 days you will see different speeches on a cluster of issues targeted to different states," Rove says. "The final debate was a fantastic end to that phase of the campaign, and we are now beginning the final phase. And George Bush is a strong closer."

1. Rove's been in the drug stash again I see.
And it's Kerry who's known to be the strong 'closer'.

2. I'd hate to see Bush "out of the zone".
What the hell does that look like then? I'd imagine he stands up on his podium, extends his arms and plays "airplane".

15. Bush didn't play anything...
...he was in the "cheerleading zone" and fleeing from service in a war he supported.

11. I agree, Bush* was in the zone in the third debate.
But I can't figure out whether it was the spin zone, or the twilight zone.

Is there a zone where you realize that you are the only one in the room who doesn't know how bad things are, and you are supposed to be in charge?

I guess that would be the 'Miserable Failure Zone', or the 'Mommy Make It Stop Zone'.

14. AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
That just made my day.

If those 3 debates were "in the zone", I be scurred to know what life is like outside the zone....

Maybe 'ol Karl got dubya's zone confused with the GREEN ZONE in iraq, repukes seem to think both are plenty secure and rosy.

23. Submitted for your approval...
"Portrait of a bush-league fuehrer named Peter Vollmer, a sparse little man who feeds off his self-delusions and finds himself perpetually hungry for want of greatness in his diet. And like some goose-stepping predecessors he searches for something to explain his hunger, and to rationalize why a world passes him by without saluting. That something he looks for and finds is in a sewer. In his own twisted and distorted lexicon he calls it faith, strength, truth. But in just a moment Peter Vollmer will ply his trade on another kind of corner, a strange intersection in a shadowland called the Twilight Zone."
Closing Narration from Twilight Zone episode "He's Alive" - 1959
