Kerry has the Cash to "Go For It" - Great Letter from Campaign
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 12:11 PM by rmpalmer
I chipped in $100 more last week I hadn't planned on when they said they were so close in so many states. May chip in more. Figure I can pay it off over the coming months. Just got this great letter from Kerry campaign.

Dear xxxx,

Last Friday, I told you about an important strategy meeting taking place over the weekend. Now I want to report back about how that meeting went and how your efforts made all the difference.

Towards the end of every presidential campaign, strategists like me crowd into small conference rooms and huddle around spreadsheets with polling data and financial reports. We argue about the best course of action in key battleground states and then we argue with the finance guy about if we can afford it. These meetings usually involve a series of tough decisions guided as much by cash shortages as they are by strategy.

The meeting we had this weekend was different. Time and time again when we decided on the best strategy to win a state and turned to the finance guy his answer was "go for it." It was "go for it" because of the contributions you made just last week.

You deserve some specifics: At one point during the meeting, talk turned to Colorado. Many pundits thought this state was in the win column for George Bush. But polls show this is not the case -- we can win Colorado. We decided that we should be aggressive here and once again the answer was "go for it." On the night of November 2, when Colorado is called for John Kerry, know it was because of you.

I just wanted to say "thank you" -- you continue to make the difference.

Let's get it done,

Michael Whouley
General Election Strategist

1. Great news!
This is a 180-degree turnaround from 2000, when Gore had to write off so many states in order to concentrate on Florida.

5. Did you honestly expect them to???
Missouri, maybe, if the polls were close... But Arkansas? VERY unlikely.

7. The last Zogby poll in Ark. had Bush up by one point
And it was dated Oct. 11. Zogby had Bush up by 2 in Mo.

8. Bill Clinton has been urging Kerry to target Arkansas
He knows a thing or two about winning Arkansas. Also, at least one major poll last week showed the race a dead heat.

19. Arkansas is EXTREMELY doable ...
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 07:59 PM by Pepperbelly
Arkansas is a special case, having sent very many of the most liberal statesmen to D.C. over the last half of the 20th century. The state has 4 congressional districts. The first district is most of the eastern side of the state and extending up to bootheel of Missouri. The 1st district is heavily Democratic. The second district composed roughly of the center of the state is alos heavily Democratic as the the 4th district in the South.

The only part of the state that is reliably gop is the 3rd district, the northwest part of the state.

With sufficient turnout in the other 3 districts, the overwhelming gop margins in the 3rd can be beaten back.

Ask Bill Clinton about that. He was master of the 1st, 2nd, and 4th disticts although his first race was for 3rd district congressman in '76.

edited TWICE because my speeling is truly egregious.

10. You can't give away too many strategic details
in an email. I get the sense from reading it Colorado is just one example of them being able to compete in a red state others have given to Bush - I doubt it's the only one.

11. $100 kick
I'm tapped out, and had sworn off further contributions, but I couldn't resist making it hurt a bit for the cause of the Republic.

Thanks for sharing the great letter.

16. I donated twice to K/E campaign and to DU
Some might see my to donations may be futile coming from the state of KANSAS but I am looking past my state to better insure other swing states like my Missouri neighbor.

I am a father of 3 girls, two of which are twins. My wife and I don't make much money around here. Doniphan County has one of the highest unemployment rates in Kansas. Last check was near 8.5%. Our family wants to make a difference in this campaign. Even if it won't be seen here I am excited to see it working for the party. It is great to see our people making a change!

....Kerry has about 25 million left and George has about 12 million. Of course the RNC may have more than the DNC.
