My friend is voting for Mickey Mouse |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 12:53 PM by deek
oops--Beginning text was not pasted correctly.
He believes all politicans are corrupt liars. No exceptions.
He believes all of US's problems are due to labor unions and social service system "sponges".
He and his wife work full time and have 3 teenaged children (One started college with a student loan.) They are a classic example of the working poor.
My daughter will always be dependent on social services for her survival. (When I noted this, he said he was talking about people who take advantage of the system--not the people who really need it.)
He's not interested in any "educational materials".
He asked me what I thought of Ted Kennedy. I told him I thought he was a voice of reason and for the common man. He told me he thought Kennedy was a murderer and a liar, who escaped penalty because of his name and wealth.
(sigh) Our families have a long, mutually supportive history with each other. Any suggestions for trying to get him to at least realize the importance of his vote/become more knowledgeable about the issues?
Shall I just not talk about politics when we're together?
That is so very difficult for me to do--I've been pretty much "all politics, all the time" since 2000. I'm hoping I'll become more balanced after Kerry secures the election. I'll feel more peaceful.

3. Drop him like a bad habot |
|
Seriously, I have given up all hope for anybody who cannot see these murderous criminals for what they are.
I've had friends in the past who had differing political opinions than I. Since Bush stole office, I have ended many friendships forever.

4. It cracks me up how they can be so self-righteous about Democrats... |
|
Joe Scarborough deliberately murdered one of his interns, yet he's got his own MSNBC program to spew his self-righteous accusations against Democrats.
The coWardly chickenhawk-in-chief devised a war that had nothing to do with 9/11, during which Bin Laden was able to escape in Tora Bora. How many of our obedient troops & innocent Iraqi citizens were murdered because of the chickenhawk's shoot-from-the-hip decision? And he scowls at our allies who chose not to take part in this by renaming french fries as "freedom fries"?
The Republicans don't have one of the most humanistic qualities that make this nation great: empathy. They don't have the ability to understand a plight until they have to go through it.
And that especially goes for social services. One of my sons will always be dependent on social services, too. And by the grace of God and the Democrats, we won't go bankrupt paying for his medical bills.

6. based on his views, his vote for Mickey Mouse is one less vote for Bush |
|
fine by me. If he things Labor Unions cause all the problems in the country as well as "welfare queens" then he has clearly bought into the republican propaganda. So by all means, please vote for Mickey, hell vote for Nader, just dont vote for Bush!

I was afraid it would *help* bush.
Actually, he and his wife are both adamant anti-abortion people. You are probably right--if he voted for a candidate, he'd vote for Bush.
Thanks.
I will relax now and just give out small talking points re this administration and perhaps concentrate his "education" on what Arnie is doing to us.

7. People who make statements... |
|
...like his are not likely voters. As long as he's not voting for *, let him be. If you want to do some missionary work over the long haul, more power to you.
Certain people get to a point in their lives where they feel the only power they have is to negate everything: Elections suck, my boss sucks, McDonald's sucks, religion sucks, education sucks, my car sucks, yadda yadda yadda.
Sound like your friend may have had some tough times in his life and succumbed to this line of thinking.
