CNN Deliberately Snubs Zogby/ The Bush Is Going To Win Meme Will Harm Us
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 02:48 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
Their poll of polls deliberated excluded Zogby...

And their inclusion of the flawed Gallup Poll tilts the average even more to Bush...

If I'm alone at a bar and Bill Gates comes in the average income of the patrons at that bar is in excess of one billion dollars...

As an aside Ron Brownstein is citing the Zogby Poll for us...

John Zogby's Reuters Asia Tour - Interview - Next US chief has to heal the meanness

IN MR John Zogby's mind, there's little question that the electorate in the United States is divided into what he calls 'two warring nations'--one favouring President George W. Bush...the other siding with his Democratic challenger, Senator John F. Kerry...

"...Whoever the next president is, he is going to have to be, first and foremost, a healer--or at least someone who stops this widening, this deepening of ideological divisions in the US. The ugly thing is, this meanness has spilled over from the halls of Congress to Main Street, US(A)."

I can see where the Bush campaign would consider that an insult (Heal? If Bush wins, he'll immediately start inflicting MORE wounds). And I can certainly see CNN doing anything it needs to to keep them happy--remember the yawning kid?

23. The Saga of The Yawning Kid
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 03:18 PM by rocknation
Late night talk show host Dave Letterman showed a video with cuts of a 13-year old yawning and fidgeting his way through a George Bush speech. CNN ran the the video, and then reported that the White House had called and said the video was a fabrication. Letterman angrily denied it, and CNN then said that the Bush White house had not called them--the taped had indeed been spliced together rather than spliced in, and they'd gotten incorrect information due to some kind of mix-up via a CNN staff member.

As this Buzzflash article puts it so beautifully: "Does anyone really believe that the CNN staff ACCIDENTALLY made up a story about the White House calling and telling CNN that the bored boy was spliced in?...What we have here is the distinct possibility, although we can't prove it, that the White House called CNN to try and discredit Letterman...If you accept this scenario, then a major news broadcaster in the United States lied about a lie, twice. They accepted the White House lie, which appeared ludicrous to begin with, and then lied about the White House peddling the lie to them. Is there any doubt now, if this is what happened, that CNN is just another White House propaganda outlet?"

Now if the Bush White House can get away with leaning on CNN that hard, why not a bunch of polling companies, too? They aren't nonprofit organizations, you know.

Letterman, not surprisingly, got in the best last word: "Doesn't it smell just a little bit?...(The kid's father) was really upset in the beginning...now everybody down there loves it...it just seems all just a little too tidy...When you enter the voting booths in Novmember, remember which candidate tried to make ME look like a dope!"

21. Maybe this was it
'Polling can be uncertain only if you rely on statistics alone,' is Mr Zogby's riposte. 'That's why an effective pollster has to rely on culture, history and sociology. I repeat, polling is the study of human behaviour, not simply a sampling of people's preferences.'

That may well explain his success. His big test will come on Nov 2. In Singapore last Friday, he flatly predicted that Mr Kerry would become the 44th President of the United States.

16. What is the poll of Polls?
I'm confused. You're arguing that Zogby being excluded, shifts the balance of favor to Bush, which I see with your bar Gates analysis. But why was it excluded? Also, is it a new poll? The link you provided only includes Zogby in the last several elections. and you're saying that Brownstein is including Zogby results in his analysis which is a good thing, but CNN et al are not?

18. It's Fresher Than The Gallup Poll
It's updated every day....

If you have a poll that says the race is even and other polls have Bush ahead it's going to tilt the average to Kerry...

IMHO, they excluded it because the results don't fit into their narrative that Bush is winning...

That's evil and if I wasn't born again I would say much more...

Bush brings out the worst in me...

Ron Brownstein is not an employee of CNN so his analysis is not infected by CNN's desire to advance the narrative that Bush has a healthy lead...

Welcome to DU

Brian

19. Thank You
Bush brings out the worst in all of us, and the RWers will see that once they regain their collective loss of vision, if he is re-elected. Can't we write to CNN, bombard them with e-mail etc. about their lack of inclusion of the Zogbypoll?
