Help me debunk GOP talking point about 2000 election results...
I posted that 2000 Gallup poll that Bush clobbering Gore, and I got a response that "4 million evangelicals stayed home because of the drunk driving charges against Bush," as a Republican rebutall.

Ask them to prove that 4 million evangelicals did so
That sounds highly unlikely.

2. Um, and what?
That drunk driving charge mattered then but not now?

3. No, it wouldn't matter now
I find most evangelicals to have a very short-term and selective memory.

4. That Is Rove's Dream, Mr. Duck
A smaller proportion of the electorate that year self-identified as evangelical born-agains in exit pollings than was the case in previous years. Why this is so, no one has ever adequately proved an explaination of.

The hard fact is this: there are many more of us than are of them.

Your friend should be worried....

"LET'S GO GET THOSE BUSH BASTARDS!"

5. Did they think he was still out on the road?

I mean, he couldn't hit them ALL.

7. They should stay home this year because of the multitude of lies
especially the lies about WMD, but I guess drunk driving is worse, huh? :eyes:

8. that is so full of sh*t. those evangelicals believe in "FORGIVENESS"
and they were drinking the koolaid on things like Clenis, abortion, gay rights, guns, etc.

There is no way people staying home from election hurt GWB. It made it that much easier to steal the thing.

BECAUSE of all the disenfranchised voters...we know Gore could have won.

Talking about now....the Bushies masked their agenda in 2000. It is in the open now. The folks who were lazy or sitting on the sidelines got a wake up call. Most of those people would have voted for GORE.

I repudiate that strawman argument as someone's wishful fantasy.

9. That's absolute BS, and here's why
1. Evangelicals believe that by accepting Jesus Christ as your lord and personal savior, you wash the slate clean. They LOVE former drunkards who repent and accept the Lowered into their hearts.

2. Evangelicals voted in droves in 2000, if for no other reason than to keep a Jew from being one heartbeat away from the presidency.

3. For most evangelicals, the #1 top issue is Abortion by a LONG shot. For the rest, it's tied with Killing Muslims in the Name of the Prince of Peace. Who is your best guy for both of those issues? The Wood Merchant, of course.

10. 4 million moderates will stay home
Because of Bush pandering to the right, not to mention he's just a freakin' idiot. Not to mention the evangelicals who will stay home because Cheney has a gay daughter and Bush hasn't done anything on abortion or gay marriage anyway.

So stick that up their butts and light it.
