What if Kerry would have said Bin Ladin isn't a threat?

Then a year later said that he never said that and always thought he was a threat, even though there was proof. Wouldn't the media be jumping all over this? Bush does exactly that, and all I'm hearing about is Mary Cheney and how strong Bush is on terrorism. Why is this not seen as the ultimate turning point of the election?
