DU is a big giant wet blanket |
|
For weeks I have been feeling great about Kerry's campaign. I have stated in several posts how I believe he will win in a landslide-and I still do.
But a couple of bullshit polls and some extra stump speech lies from bush and now everyone has been a big giant DOWNER around here. It SUCKS!
If I read one more "We're doomed" or "Rove is fixing the election" or "The polls ARE accurate" post I'm going to scream!
I was drawn to this site because it was an island of truth in a media sea of lies and distortion. It was a breath of fresh air.
Now for the first time EVER I find myself reluctant to come DU.
Can someone please be a little positive around here once in a while? Please?

35. I honestly think that the polls are good ... |
|
People are VERY concerned and if they polls even hint that Bush could win, it is NOT going to have the, "stay home and don't bother to vote" impact on Dems, IMHO.
It should serve to energize the base and inspire people with the realization that their vote really matters this time.

5. The source of uncertainty |
|
(at least for me) is vote tampering. We really will have no idea how widespread this is until after election day. I truly believe Kerry is set for a landslide, except if the vote tampering which will inevitably occur (and is already ocurring) is substantial enough to throw the election in *'s favor (again).

Naderite to vote for Kerry AND he took a bumper sticker and sign while we were canvassing. This is a swing state. Lot's of positives, it's just wheels being squeaky and all....Nothing irritates me more than to see positive threads I start, and others start, drop like stones. I have finally started using my hide thread button. If it says Poll, it's gone. Except, of course, for the 100% Kerry household poll I took of likely and unlikely (fourlegged) voters. :hi:

13. Why I'm totally positive that Kerry will win >>>> Record Turnout! |
|
I think the polls & media will be surprised at the record turnout of voters this year. Both the left and the middle want change.
Nothing can stop us! I also think the Senate will be in Democratic hands, and the house will have a smaller majority or Repugs.

seriously, here are three quotes from * today:
"My opponent wants to return to the time when terror was not part of our lives"
"I stood in the rubble on September 4, 2001"
"We will fight for terror"
there is no doubt how the votes will come out - how the ELECTION will come out is another story. Entirely.

15. Kerry whips *'s ass, real bad, it's ugly. Then he's a great president |
|
Here is what happens after the election:
(1) He turns mad dog Edwards loose on health insurers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and the oil companies on the policy end and Edwards delivers the outside smack down. (2) He takes Edwards advice on attorney general and we get the most serious prosecutor, law enforcement type who clears up all the illegalities of the * administration including 911 and Iraq fraud. The new AG, who eats nails for breakfast, also goes after vote fraud and convicts the Enron crowd and the Plame leaker's (for treason) within 12 months. (3) Kerry cuts a deal getting us out of Iraq with the Iraqi's happy. We get more cooperation on terrorist threats and a bunch of those bad boys are rolled up in a hurry! (4) Kerry and the Europeans get together and take major action on global warming and the environmental threats.
We all feel a lot better!
Count on it.

my wife is a good example. She is extremely intelligent but doesn't seem to see the obvious slant of the corporate media. She is VERY pro Kerry. And she will vote. There are lots of Dems who share this unfortunate syndrome of "fearing the worst." But they will vote for JFK.
The corporate polls are CRAP, and all we have to do is get out the vote and we will win. All indications-especially Kerry's slowly puling away in the battleground states and making Bush defend previous "flyover" states like AR, GA, AZ, NV, and even VA-point to a BIG Kerry win. Keep the faith. We will triumph. Keep coming back to DU, we need you!

Where was it written that this campaign was going to be easy and that everybody will think like we do?
When you look at the number of undecideds there are and the fact that almost half the nation wants * for another term, it should be evidence that for Kerry to win by that landslide you hope for, you are going to have work your butt off to see that it happens. Its not going to "just happen".
And there is the possibility that it wont happen. If that happens, what will you do? Leave the country?
When we have a goal to achieve, we don't just sit there waiting for it to happen. We get off our duffs and work. And if it doesn't happen, we gear up for the next one.
But to say that you are depressed because someone doesn't agree with you will not accomplish anything.
Now stop whining, go to the headquarters of your favorite candidate and DO SOMETHING TO MAKE SURE HE WINS.

ones who've registered in droves. People who've been eligible but have never voted before are coming out to get rid of the misunderadministration.
As long as the Dems we have vote, we pretty much don't need the undecideds.
Despite the best efforts of the press, Kerry is neck-and-neck.
There are literally THOUSANDS of lawyers ready at a moment's notice to challenge any seeming disenfranchisements.
We have John Kerry, they have a guy in a bunnysuit.
Case closed.

25. My advice: Ignore the polls |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 05:53 PM by pelagius
When sun shines out of your skirt because somebody calls it for Kerry by 2 points and then you plunge into suicidal despair because someone else calls it for Bush by 2 points, you're losing touch with reality.
Most of the polls are operating within margins of error that encompass their spreads. In other words, a few points one way or the other doesn't make a damn bit of difference.
Take a deep breath, focus, and keep your eyes on the prize. Only one poll matters and it will be held November 2.
We went from "no chance" in August to at least a dead heat now. It's no time to waver.

I felt so alone and so PISSED that Bush stole the election and nobody cared that I thought I'd go nuts.
Then I found DU and everybody here was just like me and it was like "Oh, goodie, I'm not insane after all."
I can't put my finger on what's changed exactly. Maybe nervousnous and anxiety, I don't know.
I am nervous, I'd have to be insane not to be, but I still think it's KERRY IN A LANDSLIDE!!

36. I'm optimistic about President Kerry being reality |
|
and my optimism grows each day. Still, in the back of my mind I can't shake the feeling that I had when the Supremes effectively handed the country to Bush. The GOP cheated once, and our country is a disaster because of it. I'm heartened that Dems will be ready this time for any fraud the GOP tries.
With BBV, I'm nervous. But I'm hopeful about all of the newly registered Dems across the country. I think the number of folks voting for Kerry on Electon day will pleasantly overwhelm us all. Except for the Republicans that really, really hate gay people and those who are extremely pro life, the GOP doesn't seem to have the true "fire in the belly" that we Dems have.

37. Remember "Dewey Defeats Truman"? |
|
Well, of course many here would not actually remember it, but you've seen the photo of victorious Harry Truman posing with the newspaper that declared his defeat. That headline was set up while the votes were being counted too - it wasn't even based on pre-election polls.
Only the poll on November 2 matters. Most of the others aren't at all scientific and have a skewed sample responding.

I think many of us here would benefit from turning off the television for starters. I'm working on a theory right now about how network news rots the brain. Also, I made a vow back in 2000 to never listen to the polls again after they predicted Gore would lose the popular vote but win the electoral vote.
Look, the news wants to make it a tight race in order to extend the drama of the process to increase viewership. And of course Bush and his spin masters are going to do what they can to appear on top. Did we expect any less from these people?
And when you think through the past several weeks logically, do the new polls make ANY sense? No. Life is way too short to live in fear. Get people to the polls, talk to your friends, family coworkers, neighbors about the issues and voting, and relax DUers!
