Tennessee early voting report |
|
My wife and I took our three daughters in for early voting this afternoon here in Memphis. My mother is voting right now at another location. We waited 3/4 hour and the wait at the other poll is an hour. One of my colleagues at work volunteered doing get out the vote work and told me that there were massive record voter registration increases with black and latino voters.
The long lines are hopefully a good sign. Don't give up on the Volunteer State yet!

voting lines start queing up at 9:30A and run till well after an hour after the polls close. (Open 10A-7P). Wait is anywhere between 1-2 hrs all day long, even on a beautiful Saturday afternoon when folks usually are out playing!
It's wonderful to see all the Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers!

Voter turn out is way up over other years...Kerry will carry TN...I have been saying this since the first of Aug...Republicans in our county are running scared..they know how commited Democrats are here...We have Kerry signs everywhere and they are all in peoples yards....Sat. We had an open house at our HQ's big crowd...we had 3 different bands playing...Plus a Special guest...who many thought was to be a guest speaker...She spoke but not in a language anyone but a true Donkey lover could understand...it was a great day for Democrats..

All three of my grandparents (who live in rural western TN) are voting Kerry/Edwards. I assume my cousins are too.
My maternal grandmother said (paraphrase), "I think that the men who start these wars should have to send their own kids." Three of her sons fought in Vietnam.
My paternal grandparents are very pious Southern Baptists, so I was a little worried about them getting swept up in the religious rhetoric of the right, but when I talked to them a couple of weeks ago, they criticized the administration's policies, made fun of Bush, and complained that the Republicans they knew were self-serving, ignorant, and racist.

I'm so happy we're getting early returns from people. It is encouraging. My bro just turned in his ballot the other day (absentee).
