CNN's Tucker Carlson, Jon Stewart Feuding
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 07:30 PM by Jon8503
My 500th Post & I can't think of a post I would rather be honored or enjoy posting than Jon Stewart: Also, has been enjoyable posting with you all:

Carlson on Monday fanned embers still hot from their "Crossfire" confrontation, saying Stewart looked ridiculous during his CNN appearance and was a sellout for publicly backing Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites) for president.

Stewart, appearing on the debate show Friday, angered Carlson by saying "Crossfire" is "partisan hackery" that does little to advance the cause of democracy.

And that was the mild stuff.

"You have a responsibility to the public discourse, and you fail miserably," Stewart said.

Responded Carlson: "You need to get a job at a journalism school, I think."

"You need to go to one," Stewart shot back.

6. Tucker Carlson's cheap tactic of interrupting salient points
made in counterpoint to his argument tells it all regarding his professionalism, or lack thereof.

10. I do not . Stewart covers much of this ground in his recent Rolling
Stone interview. I never liked the way Stewart interviewed (him as interviewee), but I think I understand why now. He was holding back. This is a very angry man, and very angry for a reason. He said nothing that I wasn't thinking. He nailed them, and he nailed them good.

18. Angry. Yes. With reason.

And I think that Stewart is an intelligent man who understands more than even most of us just how bad the hackery is. I mean, for chrissakes, he's THERE. He's inside "the business."

I think in a way he has taken all our anger into himself and the Crossfire explosion was his way of taking the fight -- OUR fight -- to the enemy.

16. No, not a publicity stunt. This has been Stewart's theme...
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 07:55 PM by krkaufman
... throughout his appearances on Nightline (x2), Charlie Rose, and now Crossfire; and Bee/Colbert and the writing staff commented on the same (lame media) during their interview with fluff-gal Deb Norville.

I think he views the right-wing and left doing what they would and should naturally do -- but the news media isn't doing their job keeping both sides in check.

edit: Note that Stewart didn't mention his book hardly at all. He obviously came to Crossfire with an axe to grind.

15. I think the late spin by the media
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 07:51 PM by RafterMan
is going to be to try to turn this into a Jerry Springer event.

Just like everything else they touch, except even more self-serving than usual given the particular arguments being made.

17. I didn't see it but it sounds like Stewart said what needed saying
The emperor has no clothes, and for various reasons none of the so-called "journalists" have pointed it out. It took Jon Stewart to do so, and I applaud him and his integrity.

And Tucker Carlson really is a dick.

19. I think Jon Stewart is a patriotic hero
He didn't talk about his book. And he probably got a horde of cancellations to talk about it on other shows. It'll be hard for him to get on other shows to talk about anything now. No one else wants to be called a hack, let alone a dick. He took a hit to for the people of America and the world.

I wish I could think of some way to convey the depth of my gratitude. Buying his book seems so . . . understated.

there is a feedback form, says they will pass on the fan mail to the appropriate place. You can select the daily show from the list.
Thats what I did.

25. Watch The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,
and you would understand what Jon is frustrated with. He makes a living out of parody based on this type media.
Tucker Carlson, poster boy for a lobotomy. His mouth never stops. He hasn't a clue that one cannot listen and talk at the same time. So Jon wasn't addressing him.

No, it was Paul Begalia, who he was directly speaking to. Tucker was the yipping dog that wouldn't stop barking in the background. He was just tossed bow-tie a bone to chew on, and naturally he took the bait and never shut up.
Jon deals on a much higher intellectual level with his payback/pay-it- forward. People gifted with this extreme humor (the Tony Hawk's of wit, if you will) are not going to shoot you between the eyes so you see it coming and duck.
Not this opportunity.
It is going over your head, off the back wall to kick you in the ass. It will never be the insult that will cause you embarrassment, but the length of time for you to realize you were slammed, that will nail your coffin.
When done in jest there is a twinkle in the eye (a give away) let's you know after the delivery, you will both be laughing. (As Ellen D. say "kidding means we'll both be laughing)
Done on the assault, everyone watching will be ducking to make sure they don't get hit.
Jon was trying to tell Paul he's crossing that line and was swimming in the mud with pigs. Remember the pigs like it.
He was reaching out to let him know what he does isn't funny.
It's hurting all the people who are working hard to end this nightmare.
Akin to an adult explaining to a child, hanging out with these juveniles is gonna get somebody hurt. Really a Kodak moment, except for that raggedy mutt biting at your heels. Out comes the pepper spray, pie-yawoh! Tucker is a dick everywhere.
When Jon takes this one-man-show to your stage, and tells you, you have become the enemy, get out while you got the chance....get someone to stuff a sock in it, so you can listen. Because you know, they'll do a great job of exposing you for the hack you are. And win an Emmy for it.

On a lighter note....
Imagine what it's like to spar with Jon & Stephen Colbert, who is, I believe equal in style and talent. In critiquing the elements of these media talking heads, Stephen is the master of condescending. He makes the pundits sound lame.
They ought to make this kind of humor, an Olympic event.
