and yeah, it's pretty local stuff but this involves strong signs of Democratic resurgence. I hope this is happening ALL over my state and many others.
I went to a forum tonight put on by the regional council of PTAs at the administration building for my school district. They had candidates from every race on the ballot in my area there to give short speeches, then answer questions. There were six judge races, county tax assessor, county sheriff, two state races, and two US races.
A rep from Martin Frost appeared to speak (with less than 100 people and no cameras neither Frost nor Martin can afford to spend time there), but NO rep was there for Pete Sessions, so Frost's rep got the whole six minutes!!! She was awesome too.
I vote straight Dem ticket anyway, but I want to tell you, I was COMPLETELY impressed by the Dem candidates. I have been working for one of them for over a year, so I already knew her well, but the others just blew me away. It just completely verified my straight party voting. The Dems blew the Reps (most of them incumbents) out of the water on the question part and I am NOT being biased. You'd have to be crazy to think the reps did better.
Even better not a SINGLE republican is running unopposed around here. None. They got fat and lazy and used to running unopposed and suddenly this year they have strong opponents with surging grassroots support. There were tons of Dem signs and literature and bumper stickers and the Rep stuff looked pathetic over on one separate table (the Dem materials covered FOUR tables).
Fully 75% of the audience were Dems. The applause after Dems spoke was deafening. After it was over, the candidates could stay to take questions, meet people, etc and the Dems were SWAMPED. The reps sort of milled among themselves and I walked past two judge candidates and heard one say "Where are the Republicans?" and the other said "I don't know, but this is depressing."
HA!!!! Direct quote! Yeah it's depressing, asshole, you haven't been doing a good job and you're about to be OUT of a job!
Wow it was fantastic. The only thing I wish is that more citizens were there to see the Republicans get spanked in such a classy way. My best friend's dad went (he normally votes rep out of habit) and he told me afterward "I am going to have to rethink some of my voting habits."
Yee-freaking-ha.
I hit 30 houses today. If I do that every day, I'll do all 300 in ten days. People aren't always there, so I leave push cards, etc.
Here's to victory!!!!!!
