Poll question: What are Republicans telling you they are really mad about?
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 10:51 PM by truthpusher
Lately I have been talking to a lot of Republicans, trying to see what makes them tick. I am often dismayed at the intensity of their conviction. After speaking with a Republican I usually find that they have a core issue, a driving force, something that they are really mad about. Without using soft labels like 'family values' or 'Patriotism', I would like to find out what others are seeing and hearing from republicans.

What are Republicans telling you they are really mad about?

1. A Republican social worker I know is really troubled that
Poor people taking advantage of the government - is gonna force him not to be able to send his kids to college. Couldn't be the new truck, the fishing boat, or the cabin, could it? Nah, not from the folks of personal responsibility.

21. Just got an email from a conservative answering the old
question "are you better off today than you were 4 years ago?" and he answered "yes, because Clinton is gone". Talk about a one track mind.

3. The idea of Democrats
I honestly don't find any Republicans truly mad about anything. Sure, they have their boogeymen, abortion, minorities, freeloaders, whatever. But mad? Nah, they're just mad at the idea of Democrats being in office. It all comes down to their tax cuts, in the end. And those who've had their faith hijacked.

4. 'Liberals'
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 10:26 PM by Steelangel
They constantly are whining and bitchin' about liberals. That's most of time I heard from them.

I don't remember exactly but my friend told me that freepers don't know how to have a political debate or discussion with non-freepers. Apparently that most of time they are shouting, insulting, blabbing nonsenses or bitchin' at me about political issues, seem that my friend is right.

Funny thing is that whenever they asked me for the facts to prove them and I did then some of them shouted, 'Liberals! Liberal media!' *shrugs* I learned to not get into these political discussions with these freepers anymore.

6. You left out God and faith! That's a driving force among many Repubs
I know. They're not mad about it, necessarily, but that's mainly why they are gung ho for *.

10. "FAITH BASED DECISION MAKING". . .
Hey, if he didn't make such weird interpretations of God's Word, I'd vote for him too. I pray, meditate, listen for God to speak, to give me a sign. I go to church, all that, but I have a totally different idea of what God is "saying." I like the slogan: "God isn't a Republican. Or a Democrat." But it sure looks like Jesus was a Democrat (or even a Communist, for god's sake). Love God, Love your neighbor as yourself, love your enemy, feed the hungry, house the homeless, befriend the outcast, treat others as you want to be treated, pray believing that it is already done. Rest one day a week.
All these so called Christians have to do is try to practice the teachings of Jesus, but if that's too radical (and it is, you know) try the 10 Commandments. Don't kill, don't lie, don't steal, don't envy, don't lust, don't do adultery, Find your spiritual center and realize that God is all there is. Why have they turned such a beautiful teaching into the Roman Empire or the third reich?. Or is this how the Roman Empire conqured the Jewish sect that called themselves "Christians?"
The religious left is on the rise. I vote my faith. I pray it's not too late.

Visualize John Kerry as already elected. Visualize President John F. Kerry. and Know that it is already done. Amen.

12. Hooray for religions of peace and the true values of Christ...
...To quote John Kerry (OK he didn't make it up), 'faith without works is dead'.

You have tapped into a clear point of this poll...The hot button issues of the Republican set are typically exclusionary, not very Christ-like.

9. Taxes, it's always taxes
They claim they are being taxed to death. They also claim that Bush gave them a tax cut. When I point out that my tax burden went up under Bush, and ask them specific questions about how much they are paying now in property taxes and sales taxes (both have been increased in my county to make up for federal cuts). They always deny that they are taxed more now, but you can sort of see the wheels start to turn.

I saw the cover of a hunting magazine today that warned that Kerry's "nightmare presidency" would tax ammunition! Oh my God! Not our bullets!

14. The only thing I've ever seen ...
a Republican get mad about is someone disagreeing with him.

No joke--it's always irrational, ideological rigidity. The real problem, to them, is that everyone isn't a Republican.

And that's why they're so friggin' dangerous. I try to explain it like this: People will always disagree. Always have; always will. Thus, you have two options: you either try to live with those who disagree with you, seek some middle ground, and compromise ... or, just hurry up and send them all to the gas chambers. When you put it that way, sometimes, the light goes on.

And sometimes it doesn't. (Think about the past 4 years, and you tell me which option the current administration truly would prefer!

16. I think your right...
...I am starting to think that most republicans can care less about conviction and Ideology. I think what they are really after is the confrontation.

Think about it, Repubs love the issues that get people worked up the most.

They seem to always say totally stupid remarks like 'I think we should just nuke-em-all' after which they get a stupid grin on there face like saying 'so wa-da-ya think of that you freakin' liiiberaall'.

It really is all about the confrontation.

I was arguing with this republican bitch at an Edwards rally and she's going on and on about how parents have a right to choose what shcool their kids go to, blah blah blah, and I'm thinking, am I back in 2000 again? Where are your vouchers that Bush promised?

19. John Kerry had long hair when he wore his uniform jacket in 72
yup, it's all about the longhairs vs the shorthairs, just like in Cromwell's England. Fellow oldsters may remember the Hair Holocaust of 1964-1974. Wasn't it awful?
