Kerry said to be excommunicated
Los Angeles, Oct. 18 (CWNews.com) - A consultant to the Vatican has said Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry has incurred the penalty of excommunication from the Catholic Church.

The consultant made his statement in a highly unusual letter to Marc Balestrieri, a Los Angeles canon lawyer who formally sued John Kerry in ecclesiastical court for heresy...

compared to Kerry and other "pious" senators. Apparently he was the most "Catholic" in regard to the teachings of the church.

On edit: I originally cited "Peace Action Network" but now I'm not sure...anyone know of the organization that listed a comparison of Kerry's votes vs. the Catholic Church? I'm thinking of capital punishment, poverty, war, etc.

11. He who is without sin can throw the first stone...
I find this interesting that you feel compelled to post this 31 post? Looking for a shocking reaction? I am so sick of these assholes following a man that has killed 20,000 Iraqi's in an unjust war yet they bag on Kerry for allowing others to make their own moral choices?? It is truly sickening! But hey, the wedge issues work effectively for Bush as he steals from the treasury we blindly argue about abortion and gay marriage.. The American public are being played!

26. Sheesh, and what does Canon law say about pedophiles? They stay
in the church.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2002/05/07/church.htm

America's Catholic leadership may talk of zero tolerance for sex offenders in the priesthood, but bishops have a 100% problem with shedding such men. They can't. "These (sex abusers) are criminals, but they are our criminals and we can't lose them. Indeed, the bishops have a duty to try to save them," says the Rev. Reginald Whitt, professor of canon law at University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis.

Even a convicted pedophile priest who has exchanged clerical black for prison blues remains a priest and the responsibility of his bishop under canon law, the internal rules of the worldwide Roman Catholic Church.

snip>

What is canon law?

The institutional Catholic Church, modeled on the hierarchical structure of the late Roman Empire, has been governed for centuries by its own rules for worship, dealings within the church and responsibilities for its evangelistic mission. Its purpose is to order the path to salvation, not to assess crime or mete out punishment, says Whitt.

27. BS
The Pope is worried Bu$h will be elected.
Go see www.usccb.org and www.votingcatholic.org
when you take a test on the latter, you will see that except for abortion, the Bishops' positions are opposed to Bu$h.
Also see Ratzinger, head doctrine honcho, says that in a secular society you have to focus on more than one issue.

30. Vatican alienates pro-Kerry Catholics and pays the price
What am I bid for this fine Bernini altar, used only on Sundays and special holy days? I'll throw in a few statues too.

The RC Church relies on American Catholics for a large chunk of its income. It can't afford to take such a drastic step unless Kerry started doing strange things with crucifixes and vomiting pea soup. Most unlikely.

I hope he shakes *'s bed a bit, though. :-)

Check out the "editorial staff" of this outfit
http://www.cwnews.com/about/editorial.cfm

The editor:
Phil Lawler has been active in politics as well as journalism. He has been Director of Studies for the Heritage Foundation (a conservative think-tank based in Washington), a member of two presidential inaugural committees; and a candidate for the US Senate.

(There's also a "managing editor." Doesn't say which one of them makes the coffee.)

I'm a Protestant, but if voting for Kerry is a sin that results in automatic exocommunication because he supports abortion, then wouldn't voting for Bu$h* be a sin eligible for automatic exocommunication because he supports wars that kill babies?:eyes:

34. Fuck the Catholic Church
The entire church, just like the Pentacostals and Baptist fundies are built around one wedge issue politically -- abortion. And both seek to divide the country along those lines.

Personally, I cant think of a more irrelevant issue when looking at this country's future but alas, some see it differently.

And am I alone in thinking the Catholic faith is based solely on the manipulation of guilt?
