Poll question: Where should we go to Freeway Blog? |
|
I'm hoping to get a little advice from the crowd. I am spending this week making signs for my first round of freeway blogging this weekend. We live in Maryland which is a solidly blue state and would like to go to a place where we might have a little more impact.
We can go as far as Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, West Virginia, or Virginia. Where do you think we should go? Please answer the poll and then try to give us specific areas in your chosen state where we might have the most positive impact.
Thanks in advance for the help.

3. Give me specific areas in the states |
|
For those of you voting for Ohio, where in the state would you recommend? We've heard that around Dayton might be a good area...

4. Ohio, there is no way Shrub is going to take PA. |

Supposedly I live in the battleground of the battleground state. there is no way this city is going repug. They can hit us with all the attack adds they want, we are still a blue collar, union DEMOCRATIC city.

The I-75 corridor not only sees a lot of Cincinnati-Dayton traffic, but national traffic going north and south. But you might find some people amenable to having their brains jiggled along there, too. The I-70 and I-75 intersection (known around here as Malfunction Junction) has an immense amount of traffic. Not sure about the bypass -- 675 cuts through the southeast 'burbs, but a lot of people north of Dorothy Lane/Indian Ripple are military or affiliated with the Air Force Base. Maybe the exits for Wright State University would have some effect. Also, Springfield -- where the midnight rally was held after the RNC -- is not far off I-70 to the east of Malfunction Junction.
I don't know what kind of treatment you might get from the police around here if you're caught, either -- they're pretty tough on trespassers.

8. How would we be trespassing? Should we really expect problems? |
|
We'll be stopping on the smaller overpasses of the freeway, at night, low traffic volume. Get out for 1 minute, hang a sign, then hit the road.
We also have smaller signs for neighborhood use - to put on telephone polls, etc.
How would this be trespassing? It's public property. Not illegal according to my research. Any bad experiences with cops doing this? Am I being completely naive here?

As long as you stick to public rights-of-way, you'll probably be okay. The worst thing that might happen is, they might tell you to move along -- depends on what the population density is in the paces you go, too.
No, if it's quick in-and-out, you might not run into trouble -- it was just a thought. Some parts of southern Ohio are more conservative than others, and the police come from the same pool as the general population.
They can be a little funny about putting things on phone poles, around here -- there's a DUer who's been doing this stuff in downtown Cincinnati, s/he could probably give you advice on what the problems would be with doing this in southern Ohio. Posts as (I think) Rosebud57. This poster has been putting up the 'two-face' signs in urban neighborhoods down in Cincinnati, I can't imagine the rules about public places are much different fifty miles up the road.
Haven't done this kind of stuff in years, so I don't know the rules anymore, either. I used to go out with friends to put up gig notifications for their bands, down in Cinci, but I haven't done anything like that since I've been up here. They used to give us stick for putting up posters, but all they'd do is tell us not to, they never really got 'bent' about it.

Still working on more but here are some so far:
Kerry = Jobs Kerry = Health Care Pro-Family, Pro-Kerry Help is on the Way Bush Lies Fire the Liar Redefeat Bush Outsource Bush Worst President EVER Lying is Hard Work Vote Dammit Draft Bush Supporters First <---Truth Bush---> Bush is not MY dictator etc. etc. etc.
Any other ideas? Between running on no sleep, making posters and flyers, writing letters, and keeping up with the news - I think I've killed the creative portion of my brain...
