Retired Marine general stumps for Dean camp
Retired four-star U.S. Marine Corps General Joe P. Hoar was in Chariton to speak Wednesday afternoon. Hoar was in Chariton to campaign for Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean (D-Vt.) at the Dean For America Headquarters at 120 S. Main. About 20 people were on hand to listen to General Hoar speak.

According to a press release, Gen. Hoar was in the U.S. Marine Corps for 37 years before retiring in 1994. During his last three years of active service he was the Commander in Chief of U.S. Central Command which has the planning and operational responsibilities for 19 countries in the Middle East, South Asia and the Horn of Africa.

During his time in the Marine Corps, Gen. Hoar’s tenure featured numerous operational highlights such as enforcing the naval embargo in the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf, enforcing the no-fly zone in south Iraq, the humanitarian and peacekeeping operations in Kenya and Somalia, support for operations in Rwanda and the evacuation of U.S. civilians from Yemen during the 1994 Civil War.

--snip--

“Over 37 years in the Marines, you meet a lot of leaders and the ones I’ve always been impressed by are the ones who have the courage to stand up and say the right thing. Gov. Dean is one of these types of leaders and he also has the wisdom to work through complex problems and solve them,” Gen. Hoar said.

30. I thought I was the only one petty enough
to note that his name is... well, unfortunate. Glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed. Er... oh, wait, no I'm not. Don't care whether he's advising the competition or not, his service deserves more respect than juvenile puns on his name. IMHO, of course.

21. Did the article say that we want this guy to be president?
How many generals, ex or otherwise have endorsed Clark? You would think that with his wonderful career , they would be jumping up and down waving little Clark flags but I don't rmember seeing any. Could it be that Clark doesn't play well with others? I do remember a couple of high ranking military types saying that they would never vote for Clark. Of course Clark did get the Madonna endorsement and as one support called it the beautiful women endorsement. I guess that must count for something.

26. It's a double-edged sword...
When Clark gains endorsements from military figures, he's accused of being a tool of the MIC or leading the country towards a police state or some such nonsense.

When others gain endorsements from military figures, it's seen as the candidate having broad appeal.

It's a silly game. But it's the one being played.

28. Why would Dean want a MIC to endorse him? I don't get it
It seems to me that most Dean supporters think that Clark is MIC. They don't want him.

Now you're willing to accept a 4 star general as a VeeP?

Flip/Flop
