Kerry campaign: Canada has a SURPLUS of flu vaccine that US can't import
NBC just reported that a Canadian clinic near Buffalo has bought up a large quantity of flu vaccine for Americans crossing the border.

AND that Canada has a SURPLUS of flu vaccine, but because of US law, it cannot be imported here! ALso reported was that the French manufacterer has extra vaccine in stock. So, where the f*ck is it, Chimpy? Are you hiding it in that hump on your back?

Kerry campaign- this is a GIFT- beat this like a drum! I am frightened about lack of vaccine for my 2-year old and also myself- I have no one to help me care for her if I get sick- and I am on YOUR side. Imagine how many fence-sitters can be converted by this one issue- this REALLY hits home, if nothing else does.

3. NBC said there are 2 suppliers of flu vaccine: 1 in England, 1 in France
and the US buys from England while Canada buys from France.

8. The US buys from both England and France...
48 million doses from each of Aventis Pasteur (France) and Chiron (England). The Chiron vaccines were the ones that were contaminated.

Canada buys from 2 suppliers, Aventis from France and ID Biomedical (a Canadian company) ID Biomed has approx 1.2 million extra doses which would be available for the US. But 1.2 million doesn't go too far when you're short 48 million doses.

9. you obviously don't get your facts from NBC
thanks for clarifying that.

I agree, though 1.2 million doses beats bupkis. The other 46.8 million of us can 'tough it out' like our President, the Chimp.

15. One other point...
Edited on Tue Oct-19-04 09:00 AM by SidDithers
Some Americans are already getting the "extra" doses. Our local news did a bit last night about Americans crossing the border into Canada to get flu shots. Clinics and hospitals along the border have ordered in doses additional to the ones needed to meet Canadian demand. They reported that Americans are being charged somewhere around $50 for the shot. Not sure if that's profiteering or just covering their costs, though I suspect it's the latter. Since almost everything up here is covered already, we don't get to see the costs associated with our health care.

My own town's local free clinics don't start for another couple of weeks.

Sid :)

5. Yes, my 81 year old
Mom was telling me last night about the lack of the vaccine in North Georgia. Can't get the shot.

I'm thinking this is the issue that turns the election, IF Kerry and the Democrats pound it hard enough.

Folks not getting protected against the flu when they are used to always having medicines is a BIG issue; and the failure to meet this demand in America - of all places - is par for the course for the * Administration and the public must understand this.

7. you are SO right: Bush's misplaced priorities SICKEN Americans
this IS the sleeper issue. Kerry needs to send his surrogates to beat this theme loud and clear in all battleground and elderly-heavy regions (as in Florida).

I wonder: is the US providing vaccine for Iraqis?

I predict at least one Republican voter in every family (an elderly person, the parent of a young child, etc.) is a potential Kerry voter because of this issue. It needs to get play NOW.

16. French Vaccines----Non!
I received an email this morning from 2 American friends in Paris. They said to let Americans know that they were able to walk into a pharmacy and bought 2 self-injecting flu vaccines for $8 a piece. The American people should know that the corrupt and greedy repugs have exposed them to what could be a serious public health problem.
