General Motors is Pulling Ads 10 mins Before & After from Sinclair!!!
Edited on Tue Oct-19-04 09:26 AM by IdaBriggs
Just got off the phone with a representative who called me regarding this issue!

General Motors will NOT air their commercials TEN MINUTES BEFORE OR AFTER OR DURING THE BROADCAST! This is for both national and regional advertising, AND they are instructing their dealerships to do the same. They do NOT want to be associated with controversial political programming!

(I asked for the whole day, by the way. I said it would make me feel better ON EDIT: because they are planning to air it without commercials already, so its not that much of a statement, but GM is a pretty big advertiser, and they believe it will make an impact.)

They will call me back later this afternoon with more details about where they are releasing the information to the public.

I am LOVING General Motors at the moment -- plus, my dad retired from there! Yeah, GM!

ON EDIT: This was my #1000 -- and I was so excited about sharing the information, I didn't notice! LOL!

1. So, their estimate is that people will remember the anti-Kerry movie
for 10 minutes??? That is better than nothing but kind of silly...

2. Good for them.

But I'd like them even more if they pulled their advertising off Sinclair altogether. I understand the "movie" will be shown without commercials anyhow.

3. This is a good thing
but the program is supposed to be aired commercial free. So the 10 before and after has to have an impact.

5. Not a win
So, they will air ads 11 minutes before and after? They are still supporting Sinclair with ad revenue.

6. Whoa!!! That is not acceptable P&G essentially said the same
Don't be fooled -- follow the money trail of the directors of these multinationals at http://www.opensecrets.org. They are into BushInc to the tune of Millions. I sent this letter off to CNNs moneyline this morning....

RE: http://money.cnn.com/2004/10/18/news/midcaps/sinclair_kerry/index.htm

Sinclair's anti-Kerry broadcast a risk
Political controversy may spark advertiser, consumer backlash against broadcaster's 62 stations.
October 18, 2004: 1:28 PM EDT

The media experts John Rash et al are so naive. The Sinclair maneuver will prove to be a “catastrophic success” to not only Sinclair but to its complicit advertisers. While many of the multi-nationals have stated publicly “they do not intend to air during the program”, implicit in theirs words are “but we will later”.

The multi-nationals, such as P&G, Pepsi-Cola etc. will be particularly hurt by their complicity not just at home but in their markets around the world. Let us not forget that 33 of 35 first-world countries would like to see the president retire, but more importantly they would like to see America execute a “free and fair election”. This Sinclair maneuver certainly taints the hope of that happening. Most Americans and non-Americans are not as naive as the alleged media experts. The global community will exercise its core values and withdraw support for Sinclair and “those that harbor Sinclair” and it will linger for generations to come.

I am not an American, but I acknowledge America’s leadership role in the world. I further acknowledge that more dangerous times lie before us all if America is not able to deliver a free and fair election. As non-Americans, we have neither say, nor direct influence in your choice of presidents (as it should be!). Having said that, I will join my American patriots in solidarity and do my bit to ensure the fairness of the 2004 and future elections – if that means boycotting any and all advertisers that air on Sinclair (not just during the program, but afterwards). I will encourage my network of responsible citizens of the world to do the same. We will sell our Sinclair stock, sell any mutual funds that contain Sinclair content, and purge our portfolios of any related advertiser that chooses to support the unethical and un-patriotic Sinclair
Broadcasting Group.

As a final thought, we will not wait for the Sinclair broadcast before exercising our good judgment (purging my financial portfolio) having recently discovered that their large multi-national advertisers have poured millions into Republican machine.

Take the AG Lafley (Pres/CEO of P&G) family for example:

Now expand the family to all P&G employees....

You can’t tell me (a Canadian) or any other sentient being on this planet that these advertisers weren’t fully behind Sinclair’s cheap “news” trick to alter the outcome of the election. And if they weren’t behind it, they must be somewhat embarrassed to know that if it wasn’t for Sinclair’s maneuver we would not have bother to exercise due diligence and discovered the facts above.

As a top 1% wage earner in my country I take tremendous pride in aligning myself with the true patriots of America – those who demand a free and fair election. Sinclair and its associates have crossed the line of fair and ethical behavior. Silence is no longer an option in this troubled world. Their deeds will not be forgotten in our lifetime.

Respectfully

7. This is lame
Their 20 minute boycott does not impress me in the slightest.

If I didn't donate money to the RNC for 20 minutes, would you all be impressed? Screw that.

'Tis good news about GM, though the whole day would be so much better!! Perhaps if they get hit even harder by everyone, they'll consider it... ;-)

12. a bit limited, no?
especially the part about ads "during" the broadcast. There aren't going to be ANY ads during the broadcast.

15. let`s be real folks....
general motors or any other advertisers is not going to pull commercials from sinclair stations and affilates..that is reality . 10 minutes before and after disassociates them from the viewers minds. good pr for general motors and bad pr and even more damage to their stock price..after all general motors can`t afford to piss off any customer at the present time....
