Who are worse: Alcoholics or Anti-War Protesters?

In a few threads, it sounds like the Swift Boat Liars are having an impact.

Which is worse:

Being a young antiwar veteran or being a young irresponsible drunk?

Are some people saying they prefer alcoholics to anti-war protesters? If Kerry had been an alcoholic partyboy in his youth, would he have more support? Is that what the Republicans and the Swift Boat Liars want us to believe?

Several people have said they have seen some evidence of some people opposing Kerry because of his Vietnam War activities. Well, I can't understand why this issue isn't at worst a wash. Shouldn't alcoholism cancel out any negative that some people associate with anti-war activities?

Where are groups like MADD on this issue?

And proud of it too!... However, when I met Mr. Kerry in '72, niether one of us was drunk.
But trust me friends, my group of Viet-vets against the war had some great parties usually after meetings and/or protest events.
