NORTH CAROLINA
-------------

Kerry: 47%
Bush: 50%

Bush won in 2000 with a 13 point advantage. Now it's a statistical tie.

4. HFishbine--I'm still holding you to your promise in the NC forum.
Didn't you say that you promised Kerry would take NC?!

See, you are right, it *is* possible!

6. Hold me to it, but help me out....
We need every bit of energy we can muster. We are in striking distance. Contact your local party headquarters and ask what you can do (puhhleeeze).

8. Oh, I have. But here in Durham, Kerry will win this county BIG!
This is a solidly dependable Democratic county. In many local races, the Repubs don't even bother to run candidates.

There are more Kerry/Edwards yardsigns and bumperstickers and energized Dem voters than I have *ever* seen.

We are just trying to get EVERYONE out to vote so that we can counteract all those (R) voters down east. It can happen!

7. I have to think
that we'll get a few more visits from the candidates now. That will help.

13. There's another strategy, though
If it's kept under the radar, and if the Democrats there really work hard to get out the vote, while the GOP voters grow complacent about a win, it could happen.

If the candidates visit and publicize how close it is, GOP voters may wake up and work harder to get out their vote.

I don't know. It might be better to keep it under the radar and send in a team to help get out the vote.

14. Hmmm
Yeah, maybe. We closed the gap with only one Kerry visit and one Edwards visit in October. I don't know. I'm sure there are people smarter than me thinking this through. I'll bust my butt either way.

12. I have a hunch that there will be a lot of Republicans who, . . .
though they would never tell a pollster or anyone else, will be voting for Kerry once they're in the privacy of the voting booth . . .

15. I'd bet the remaining Nader people will do so, too.
It'll happen only when they've stepped into the voting booth, faced the ballot, and had a moment alone with their consciences.

16. Lots of the military vote for Bush has been eroded in this state
and those votes are just not in Bush's pocket like they used to be.

Farenheit 9/11 showed for weeks to full houses in Fayetteville (Fort Bragg) and Jacksonville (Camp LeJeune).

17. If Kerry were to win NC,
I may even think about returning there, where I still own a home...

Believe it or not, one of the reasons why I left NC for NYC was because of the freeperish attitudes of people around me (in-laws, fundies, RW extremists and RW hypocrites).

19. If you moved back and setttled in Durham, you wouldn't encounter
so much freeperish attitudes.

Durham and Asheville are both very progressive, diverse, and tolerant cities.

20. an anecdote from the midwest
i live in an upscale chicago burb, and in Y2K the *:Gore signs were running about 20:1. This year it is even. there's change in the air, if we can just get all the votes counted.
