1. Americans lost sight of the fact that democracy HAS to be participatory |
|
or it is lost. Too many think that since people fought and died for our freedoms a long time ago that things will always be fine and they can coast. Of course, this gets reinforced by media and the crooks who overthrew democracy while America was watching Britney and other stupid, inconsequential things.

4. i can't say this enough.... |

anybody with as corrupt a system of morals and values to call themselves republicans in this day and age is HUMAN GARBAGE.
even the moderate repubs are garbage....if they're so stupid that they can't see that they are allying themselves with rednecks (i.e freepers), racists (i.e. freepers), religious whackos (i.e. fake christians) and corporate criminals they are nothing more than human garbage. the corporate criminals figured out how to get dumb white trash to vote against their own interests and how to pander to jerry falwell worshippers to get their vote as well.
republicans are garbage. hey freepers, deal with it.

First thing they did, was trick the people into thinking the DEM were soft on crime,So they took the court houses. In 1980s an early 90s they got control of alto of state offices.Than when it came to getting a state job you had to part of GOP.They got rid of state worker who were not part of the GOP.The rest of story is we got sick of it.Clinton help us see the light.

6. Quietly getting involved and taking over at the local level |

This needs to be our strategy starting Nov. 3 - no matter who wins.

8. After the fall of Richard Nixon, the Extreme Right Wing of the GOP |
|
had an opportunity to "take over" the party. When Ford lost in 1976, that sealed it and Reagan rose to power backed by Right Wing ideologues and corporate interests.
The Right Wing started, over 30 years ago, to build a base at local levels. While the Progressive and Moderate factions in the USA were busy making money and developing things like Personal Computing and the World Wide Web (as opposed to the Internet Backbone), the ideologues were talking about social issues such as affirmitive action, abortion and school prayer and the corporate interests were buying up the media.
Sooooo, at the local level, where all this voting stuff gets down and dirty, ideologues were energized enough to take over leadership positions while the majority of us were too busy to "mess with that shit" At the same time, the oligarchical mass media have turned the process into something more akin to the Super Bowl than the exercise of Democracy.
Even if Kerry wins, we will have to start what will be a long process (although an expansion of Moore's Law to the society in general seems to be applicable) of establishing a base of energized progressives and, in the face of these extreme ideologues, moderates that will establish us as the reasonable rational people that the majority of the USA constitutes.

10. Thanks to all of you. I really think that you're right, while we got |
|
complacent, they had a plan and put it into action. Got in at the grass roots level, and attached themselves like leeches.
