Should Kerry skip inauguration parties, vow not to take vacation?
What if Kerry says:

"I will not be a part-time war president.

Immediately after I am sworn in as your president I will go directly to the White House to begin the "hard work" of bringing our troops home.

America will celebrate my inauguration while I will work for peace and security.

I further pledge that I will not take a single day of vacation in my first year as president. While American troops are risking their live 24/7 I will not waste a single day."

This pledge would send a powerful message about the way nonchalant, lazy Bush treats his "War Presidency". It would be another way to put Bush on the defensive. Symbolic but practical.

I posted earlier suggesting Kerry should postpone inauguration parties:

The nearly unanimous DU response was WE WILL NEED A BLOWOUT PARTY. Party on!

1. Sounds stupid. And unhealthy.
I don't want an exhausted man at the switch.

Why are you promoting idiotic ideas?

job. This will contrast nicely with *'s record as shown in F-911, which is now at the video stores. A good move in the final 2 weeks.
Also, he can claim that it will save the enormous cost of a huge celebration and several inauguaral balls. This will emphasize that he is a fiscally responsible person. It ain't about a well needed break, it's about winning. Nothing is more important.

9. I agree with no vacation
But he/we deserve the festivities. At a labeling party last night, we were talking about who could go to the inauguration or if we should hold our own ingauguration party on the 20th, formal no less.

5. No, because I hope he and Teresa also bring back class to the
White House. It should become a place of joy and national pride...Not a bunch of shit-kickers eating pretzels, covering nude statues and going to bed at 9pm. Drive the fundies back into their caves and restore America to its glory.

10. A scaled-back inaugural would be good.
We really don't need a coronation-type Inaugural like the ones the Reagans threw.

Limit the number of balls, but still give Teresa a chance to show what a classy first lady can look like.

11. I am not saying Kerry should cancel the parties
America needs a party.

While we party Kerry works. That's the symbolism I'm suggesting. Sharpen the contrast with lazy boy Bush.

13. As far as vacations go
I don't think Kerry should forgo those at all. The stress of being President is supposedly like nothing we've ever experienced. Especially if he's a President like Clinton was where he was involved in just about everything. Bush on the other hand lets everyone else do his work for him, he's in bed by 9:00 PM, etc. He spends no time worrying about the things he's supposed to worry about as President, so that's why we're critical of him and his excessive vacations.

14. We can all have our own celebrations -
I certainly will. But if it will help win, he should damn well do without a big party. He can have one in '09, after the mess is cleaned up from the present occupier.
