Comparing lists could be useful. . . though what a surprise it is that Mr. Bob Barr, in his latter days in office and now, is speaking out against the PATRIOT Act and his party's own leader, Mr. Bush. He was certainly on my little list in the past.

Re Abu Ghraib, he was the only senator or representative who admitted that the unpublished photos and videos showed rape and murder.

Ther is no question that Bob Inglis, who ran against Fritz Hollings in 1998, would take his seat. We don't want that. Hollings only beat Inglis in 98 because of some internal things that were going on in the SC governor's race.

10. Let's not declare defeat before the battle is joined or even planned.

First of all, as I said in my headline, your certainty that Democrats can't win a future election in which we don't even know who the candidates will be is laughable.

Second of all, what are Lindsay Graham's redeeming qualities? I don't know of any.

Edited on Tue Oct-19-04 01:15 PM by Mike L
Inglis has already won three terms in the House. I live in SC. I know a Democrat can't beat Inglis. Inez Tenenbaum is only even with or beating Jim DeMint in the current Senate race because he sponsored a bill for a 23% national sales tax (in lieu of federal income tax) in the House and also says stupid things like Tom Cobourn of OK does.

26. If you're so good at predicting the future, why aren't you rich?
Got any stock tips? They should be worth at least as much as your political prognostications.

The inescapable fact is that you don't have any idea - at all - who the Democratic candidate would be and all you have is a guess as to who the Republican candidate would be, so predicting the result is, well, umm, sorry I can't think of a polite adjective.

I am, but not from playing the market. Some advice though-- there should be a good rally when the election is over. Then it's back down in the Spring.

You are right that I don't know who the Dem candidate would be--- because there are no big Dem names left in SC. I can't even think of one person who might run.

18. Guess I'm going to throw come cold water, but
I don't give a tinker's damn what their sexual orientation is, I hate these guys for their lies, cheating, and the whoring of their candidate and everything their party stands for just to win an election. Morals mean nothing to these people. Let them out their own people, I hope I am above their cheap, tawdry tricks.

Just goes to show you that gays are just like the rest of the human race, good ones, bad ones, smart, dumb, charitable or money grubbing jerks. I think that is the point that everyone should get - gays are no better, no worse than anyone else. Once we give them that acknowledgment maybe we can move past the "scandal" of being a homosexual.

That said, we all know that the GOP is the party of hypocrisy, why should we be surprised to find it has a whole closet full of "secrets?" I just can't understand how any gay or minority could be in bed with the GOP knowing their stance on them personally. Sorry, seems I full of "rant" today!

Take your cue from Jon Stewart, when he refused to take a cheap shot at O'Reilly on Crossfire, even for his hypocrisy. It is not what the individual does that is f'ed up, it is the agenda they pursue.

In this case, it seems that we are even attacking people who have not pursued such an agenda.

Thank you, Ky for Kerry, for being a stand-up person.

23. I respectfully disagree
Mehlman and McClellen, especially, helped foster this fake controversy about Dear Mary and tried to push a story about nefarious reasons for Sen. Kerry mentioning her name--even though their party tacitly requires them to remain silent about their own sexual orientation.

What's worse is that our party hierarchy plays along with the game, signaling that there is something that might be something embarrassing about their orientation by never mentioning it. Who cares that Mehlman or McClellen are gay? Not me. But I do think they have gotten many of the advantages they now have because of the hard work out and proud LGBT people, like Dear Mary used to be, have accomplished.

36. Good points. We are within our rights to question hypocrisy

wherever we find it. No one here is outing these people or suggested these people be outed, merely discussed the report that they will be outed to a party that is not supportive of gays.

Many (most, perhaps) Republicans would condone employment practices that included firing gays and Lesbians or not hiring them to begin with. Obviously, they would also oppose same sex marriage or domestic partnerships.

29. Yeah, it's pretty unfathomable---

How one could support a party that, essentially, runs around half the time saying you really don't have a right to exist.. You ought to repent, get cured, or be put to death in some weird biblical fashion.

For the record, I could care less if they're gay, too-- but I certainly think the hypocrisy it points up is relevant.

who was Lindsey's good friend.

They provided cover for each other back then. This was during impeachment, too, when they were all three spouting sanctimony over the airwaves day and night for months.

35. Oh, that's so rich! Lindsey Graham, Laura Ingraham, Asa Hutchinson

all castigating Bill Clinton for his sexual shenanigans while Lindsey "dates" Laura as cover for her affaird with his friend, the married Asa, and, as a trade off, has a temporary beard. They truly should change their name to the Grand Hypocrisy Party.

And we all remember how Newt Gingrich, about to be busted on his affair with an aide and about to divorce wife # 2 to marry the mistress du jour, resigned the Speaker's post mid-impeachment. I'm blanking on the name of the original nominee to replace Newt as Speaker, but it then came out that he was also enjoying the sexual favors of a woman other than his wife. Wait, it was Bob Livingston, wasn't it? So he resigned in disgrace.

Somehow Henry Hyde's past affairs and his child born to a woman he was never married to, also came to light during this time.

You couldn't make this stuff up.

David Brock talks about what nasty homophobes some of the neocons are, especially Bill Kristol and John Podhoretz (or whatever Norman's son's name is--I don't have the book with me right now).

However, I saw Podhoretz Jr. interviewed about his book about G.W. Bush, and he was so giddy and gushy about Bushboy that I half-expected him to say, "I want to have his children."

He's my candidate for Republican hypocrite most in need of outing.

52. Graham Dirt (Thanks, Mom...)
Lindsay Graham comes from the same Upstate corner of South Carolina as John Edwards. And me.

In fact, Graham's house isn't too far from my Mom's. Mom is not a fan of Graham, and shows him only a little less contempt than she does the entire Bu$h Klan. Which is saying a lot.

According to Mom, the first time Graham ran for Congress, he showed up at all the stump speeches etc. with an attractive young blonde woman. Everybody assumed she was either his wife or fi(n)ancee.

Turns out she was his niece.

Next election, he was squiring another blonde around. That was Laura Ingraham.

Local consensus is that it wouldn't take very much to out Mr. Graham.
