Push-polling?
Is push polling where they ask slanted questions to try to change your mind about an issue?

I just got a call from some research company. It was one of those voice-prompted surveys.

"Do you intend to vote in the election this November?" Yes.

"Will you be voting Yes or No on Measure 36, which defines marriage as between one man and one woman?" No.

"Did you know that activist judges in Massachusetts have required public schools to teach the gay lifestyle? As one public school teacher put it, 'if parents don't like it, too bad - give me a break'. Does this change your view at all?" Fuck off.

"Thank you for your time and your responses today." "click"

16. If you knew that John Kerry
enjoys torturing small kittens with a cattle prod, would you be

(a) less likely to vote for him
(b) unable to vote for him until Hell freezes over
(c) unable to vote for him until pigs fly
or
(d) I am an America-hating communist, like Kerry, so I will vote for him no matter what you say.

2. "Teach the gay lifestyle." Hahahahaha!!!
Yeah, right between History and Physics, all kids here in Massachusetts are required to take How To Be Gay.

What nonsense.

12. Physics will be banned by the Bush* admin as Heresy
It preaches such innacuracies as heliocentrism, the absurd notion of "atoms," and many other things that Dear Leader cannot comprehend.

3. Push Polling: Invented by Karl Rove
This really takes this country to it's lowest common denominator.

17. Not by Rove. Push polling is at least 30 years old.

4. Where or how can we report push polling in our states? Is there a
state entity who could crack down on push pollers? I'd like to report phone numbers and names of pp's and get it on record.

6. Report it to your state Board of Elections
and report it to news media in your local area. I did all this to no avail when I was push-polled by the Elizabeth Dole campaign in NC. However, it is worth a try.

I've gotten similar Kerry-bashing push-polls recently here in NC.

7. Do the organizations identify themselves?
Does the recording say who they are, or do they say it quickly in the very beginning so that it's hard to remember it?

9. It was said very quickly, and all I could remember was the acronym
FEC, which doesn't help me much. I don't remember what the FEC stood for.....

18. I wonder if it'd be valuable to have a national website devoted to
reporting and verifying/investigating push polling. It could be set up with state forums.

8. Oregon.
Just for laughs, the first three arguments in favor of the measure are trojan horse arguments. Very funny.

15. The first 3 were great! I love those!
Trojan arguments have made it thru the voter pamphlet here before. I look for them now! Kind of like a treasure hunt, or lookin for Hef's Rabbit. Makes reading the pamphlet fun!

13. I would've toyed with them had it been a live phone call
But since it was recorded, the best response I could come up with was "fuck off".

19. Oh vey they are fanatic about this issue!
I got a missed call on the answering machine. I'm sure that's what it was this morning.

I also got a flyer yesterday. Of course I've already voted against it. The no on 36 sure hasn't spent the same amount of money or effort. It's too bad.
