Does "early voting" give Dems the advantage.....?
Several assumptions need to be made on a state by state basis:

* heavy repug or dems state.... does it really matter? (Calif or Ill)

* so limiting this to the "swing states" (13-14 of them)

Speaking for Florida...I think it favors dems
----------------------------------------------
* Florida - gives elderly and minorities MORE time to vote

How about the other critical states...any insights?

(Ohio, Penn, Wisc, New Mexico, etc.....)

2. Without exit polling? Who the hell knows.
The amount of time between casting ballots and counting is making me horribly nervous. All I can think is Wow, they can manipulate those machines at their leisure.

WHO is watching the machines? Who is protecting the vote? Who is checking the daily total before the candidate count?

Right now, there is very little about early voting I like.

3. I think it favors the voters
like you said, in Florida, it gives elderly voters more time to vote. The advantage for minority voters is that they can find out sooner, rather than later, if there is a problem with their registration and can notify a legal resource before the polls "close" on Nov. 2.

4. I am of two minds
1. It works out the "kinks" in the system and is a good thing
2. It gives Diebold more time to override the vote counts.

http://www.nomorefakenews.com/archives/archiveview.php?key=2154

"Manipulation technique found in the Diebold central tabulator -- 1,000 of these systems are in place, and they count up to two million votes at a time. By entering a 2-digit code in a hidden location, a second set of votes is created. This set of votes can be changed, so that it no longer matches the correct votes. The voting system will then read the totals from the bogus vote set. It takes only seconds to change the votes, and to date not a single location in the U.S. has implemented security measures to fully mitigate the risks. This program is not "stupidity" or sloppiness. It was designed and tested over a series of a dozen version adjustments."

6. 'Voting' gives Dems the advantage.
The more people who vote, the more likely Dems are to win.

7. If people vote
early, they cannot be swayed by an "October Surprise".

I imagine that the earliest voters (for both parties) are the really hard core people--if you are "undecided" it seems as if you would not be likely to rush out and vote at the first opportunity?

8. We should also vote early on election day
Hopefully Dems are being encouraged to vote early on Nov 2 also. Makes it easier to address any last minute "glitches" either in machinery or registration or thuggery that are certain to happen this year. Also, ballots are mysteriously in short supply in some areas, best to get one while available and let the repukes whine to Rove about his vote suppression tactics.

9. Vote early, but be prepared for long slow lines.
Be patient. It may take a while, don't give up and leave.
