Iams response to my email - how would you respond?
Dear Concerned Consumer:

Thanks for contacting us about Sinclair Broadcast Group's plans to air
"Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal."

We haven't reviewed the content of this program, nor would we advertise in
it. One of our guiding principles is that we don't advertise in programs
where there is expression for or against a given political candidate.

The way we spend our advertising dollar is important to us. For most TV
programming, we're able to review the content on a show by show basis before
making any advertising decisions. You may see some of our commercials air
on the Sinclair Broadcast Group's network during shows that we've already
agreed to appear in. The networks also have control over TV programming and
can choose to preempt regularly scheduled programming with different
programs, such as this one.

We appreciate your comments and I'm sharing them with those responsible for
television sponsorship.

Sincerely,
Tina
Iams Consumer Care, North America

1. Well that translates to a big fuck you..
Edited on Tue Oct-19-04 05:23 PM by kerryin2004
They are trying to excuse it off as we wont advertise during the smear on Kerry but any other time we wil.. Funny, but from what I understand no ad time will be sold for the Kerry smear anyway.

Tell them this, If they continue to advertise on a station that leans politically than you will cut off all purchases and will make sure to find 10 friends to do the same.. Look at Sinclair's stock as an example of what can occur! If they respond again like this really do it and spread the word!

10. National advertisers...
If what you are advocating is that all national advertisers pull their ads now and in the future from the 6 broadcast networks in order to boycott a Sinclair station, that is not going to happen.

If Sinclair owns ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, UPN & WBN affiliates, then any national advertising on the above networks will also air on a Sinclair affiliate.

The only way to avoid airing on a Sinclair affiliate is for the advertiser to order a 'black-out' of that market and pay a fee for each unit blacked out.

2. I just got the same email. Here's what I sent them.
This reply is not satisfactory. Special times call for special measures, and you must take them. I am not interested in whether you advertise DURING the smear, I am saying that if ALL your advertising is not pulled from Sinclair's stations immediately, and this "documentary" airs, Iams is never going to be purchased in this household again. That means never.

3. By saying...
The only way the public can protect our airwaves in a situation like this where highly partisan media outlet owners choose to influence a National election is with our dollars, and the only way we can do that is by appealing to advertisers. Iams needs to impress upon Sinclair their disapproval of them dragging all of us into their own partisan politics. They can do so by suspending advertising with Sinclair for a significant extended period of time, not merely a symbolic one. To do anything other is to be complicit in allowing their business as unusual, attempting to tip a National Election toward one candidate through Sinclair's stranglehold on public airwaves. And we will boycott advertizers who become complicit through their ad purchases with Sinclair.

5. I tried a sample of their cat food once
and both my cats sniffed it and then did that "scratch the floor, please bury this shit" movement that cats do to tell you they're displeased with your culinary choice.

However, even if they'd loved the stuff, I'd probably be writing Iam's to tell them they'd lost a customer to Kit n Kaboodle because I couldn't support a company that supported a corrupt media corporation that was abusing public trust.

13. Iams is owned by P&G from whom I got an identical response to which I
Edited on Tue Oct-19-04 05:51 PM by Iceburg
replied...

Dear Mr. Loftus,

With all due respect, stating that “We have no plans to advertise on this program” is akin saying “we’ll advertise later”.

As I stated in my first email, “Whether you personally are a Bush supporter or a Kerry supporter, I'm sure that you would agree that forcing stations to air such denigrating propaganda on the eve of an election has only one purpose in mind. “

After doing a little research, it is now abundantly clear what P&G's plans are....

and we mustn't forget the Lafley family contribution to values...

Respectfully,

18. I got the same exact response from Tina. And the fact that it was a
form letter response meant it addressed none of my issues, specfically. I gave up on them. Ignoring us now is their mistake. I have been telling my friends to switch to a way superior product called innova (naturalpet.com) Can or kibble.

20. Try this
"OK, then while you're not advertising for an hour on Sinclair, I'll go buy a can of Iams.

Then an hour later when you start advertising on Sinclair again, I'll take the can back to the store and demand my money back."

I have two words for you: *Science Fucking Diet.* Whoops, that's three.

Anyone notice that "Sinclair Broadcasting" and "Swift Boat" have the same initials?
