Dale Ungerer registered Iowa Repub was the guy Dean told to sit down
I saw this last night on Hannity & Colmes. The guy is 66 years old and seen like a fairly nice guy but he went on and on about helping neighbors out and how he supported this attitude by marching in many parades. I don't know what in the world he was talking about and what it had to do with Dean cutting him off after he had gone on and on. I don't think he was a "plant" of any kind though.

Hannity referred to him as his "friend" and at the end said "you are what makes America great". Hannity of course lead the conversation with talk about how unstable and angry Dean is seen to be (wonder how?).

Okay are you ready for this.....Colmes actually did something that would lead one to believe he does indeed have a spine.

Colmes:"Mr. Ungerer are you affiliated with any political party?"

Ungere:"Yes in fact I am a registered Republican"

C:"Did you vote for George Bush in 2000?"

U:"Yes"

C:"Do you plan to do so again?"

U:"Yes he is a very good man" (something to that effect)

1. Link to FOx (not the transcript but the opening paragraph is priceless)
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,24927,00.html

Behind every significant change in American history -- There lies a great debate. Freedom of speech entitles all Americans to stand up for what they believe in. There are two sides to every coin, and a true debate will bring forth fair and balanced facts. So stay with the # 1 nightly debate program on cable news because -- We Debate. You Decide.

Tonight on Hannity & Colmes:
• Democratic presidential races have always been heated -- But what caused frontrunner Howard Dean (search) to lose his temper during last night's forum? Was this temper flare an example of how the former Vermont governor reacts to political criticism?
We'll talk to the voter, Dale Ungerer, who struck a nerve and received the wrath of Howard Dean. Then we'll get reaction from a longtime friend of Howard Dean, Thomas Hudspeth.

8. Oh hell...
Fawking hilarious!!!!!! That paragraph made sure to hit all the right-wing talking points about Dean: angry, loses his temper, unstable, etc.

And it's not working. Dean's popularity only increases.

2. Did you notice?
Colmes asked him if he had been encouraged or even paid by somebody to attend the Dean event. His answer was to talk about how surprised he was that he made the national news. He couldn't even keep his eyes open; shut them tight as he completely avoided the question.

3. I know too many old blowhards like him to have any respect
Edited on Tue Jan-13-04 09:11 AM by Cheswick
They were stupid young blowhards and now they are stupid old blowhards. Blech, I though Dean gave him way more respect than he deserved.

4. If you watch the WHOLE clip....
Dean does get a bit red faced and did raise his voice a bit but you have to do that if you want to control the room and discourse. Ironically watch Hannity and all the RW blowhards and you will see what I mean, it's hard to beat the guy with the mic.

Dean actually did a very good job IMHO. I could see how this guy could go on and on. Coud Dean have handled it differently? Yes but this is one incident out of days full of on the fly things happening.

Expect to see this time and time again.

6. This whining about Dean's temper is pathetic
I thought we Democrats were spoiling for a real nasty brass knuckles brawl with the Thugs this fall. But we're shocked---shocked I tell you---when one of our candidates tells a heckler to sit down.

Whether we nominate Dean, or Clark, or Kucinich, or a ham sandwich, we are going to see all this and much much worse. If we let Karl Rove and Fox News set our standards of decorum WE HAVE ALREADY LOST.

10. The Daily Show on Dean's "Anger"
Stephen Colbert:

"It's one thing to believe Bush is leading this country to a bleak future of massive debt, increased terrorismand and environmental catastrophe, but does Dean have to be so mad about it?"

"Dean's anger has been widely reported. It doesn't matter what I've seen, it's been widley reported and that makes it factesque."

"Alright, you want facts, I'll give you actual facts. Rumor is, once when a reporter asked him about Medicare, Dean responded by tearing the head off a goat."

14. Sounds like it doesn't it?
You should see the picture that went with that. (http://www.comedycentral.com/mp/play.php?player=realplayer&type=v&quality=high&reposid=/multimedia/tds/colb/colbert_8077.html)

Stewert says, "But Stephen, that's a doctored photo." Colbert: "Exactly John, Doctored Howard Dean -- aka the Vermont mad man."

7. Close your eyes and imagine
a Partisan Democrat allowed within talking range of President Bush and allowed to rail on for several minutes about all Bush had done to our country. Imagine him speaking of "free speech zones", loss of jobs, fear-instilled citizens.

Imagine the rapid blinking.
Imagine the apopleptic rage.

Bush woudln't be able to hide his contempt, and he wouldn't do nearly as good a job as Dean at explaining his position.

Dean handled the situation remarkably well - and Bush just never has to deal with that sort of situation, not even with the lapdog press.

9. "I don't care what you think"
W's response (reportedly) to a man on Fourth of July 2001 when the guy shook his hand and then told him he thought he was doing a horrible job.

12. I thought Dean handled it very well..
It's obvious the old guy was a Freeper and only there to disrupt the event. Dean let him speak, and that's far more than any of us would have got at a Chimp speech. The old fart was probably shocked that he wasn't able to drown Dean out with his babbling - like his heroes on FAUX News do every night.

George Bush is a good man ... :eyes: Yeah, so was Ted Bundy, according to anyone who ever knew him.
