After Kerry Wins It Still Won't Be Over...
...and we should expect Karl Rove and the rest of the reactionary animals to howl about 2004 being a "stolen election." They'll cook up all sorts of specious distractions in hopes of creating the myth that the Kerry presidency is somehow illegitimate. And they'll get all the money they want from the usual right-wing billionaires intent on destroying our democracy to fund this attack.

On November 2nd we'll win the battle, but the war will go on.

1. let 'em
and they will get as much sympathy from us as we got from them. The thought of 4 more years of the fascists compared to putting up with them witch hunting Kerry... give me the witch hunting, we're ready for it this time.

4. Yeah, but those of us in California know what repugs can do...
...if they don't like the outcome of an election. I'm sure they will come up with something to make the Kerry years interesting.

2. You've got that right.
On Kerry's inauguration day, the repukes will be meeting to plan an impeachment strategy. This time they won't wait until a second term.

5. Strategy
The impeachment strategy backfired on them last time. Clinton became more popular than ever. What makes you so sure that Rove will survive as a Kingmaker if he blows this election?

10. Impeachment will be the top priority

of a Republican Congress -- assuming, of course, the repukes hang on to both houses. If they lose the Senate, they'll find other ways to make Kerry's tenure a living hell. At any rate, they aren't going away, and they will be royally pissed.

3. Rove's first talking point
Nader stole enough votes from God's Own Bush and thus tipped the balance to Kerry.

8. You're right about this only being a battle -
We've got to

- get some kind of fairness doctrine back to protect the airwaves
- elect rational thinkers to school boards around the country
- keep tabs on the House & Senate - ensure that our Reps are doing what WE want them to do
- keep close tabs on the wingnuts still in office
- learn more & get involved with local & state politics - many of the voting officials making crucial decisions in this election are appointed by govs or elected at a local level

I'm in my 40s and haven't been this active since my 20s - was a Carter delegate to the VA state convention when I was 18...but got comfortable and life sped on...
Don't think I'll have a chance to "get comfortable" again in this lifetime. This creeping fascism has been lurking for many years & is going to take consistent long term effort to overcome. Thank goodness I've found DU & you wonderful activist folks! As I've seen here "We do have the POWAH!!!

14. Beautiful post, vademocrat!
Are you ME?
I too am in my 40's, always empathetic, always for the little guy, but I never got into it until democracy was hijacked in 2000.
Even then it took the trade center attack and the subsequent 'puke exploitation of it to really get me boiling.
Now I'm a precinct delegate and the go-to person at work for democratic ideals. Go figure!
Once we get rid of the shrub, I'm gunning for the "faith-based" initiatives.
Are you with me? Let's go!

15. Thanks!
You sound like a great example of democracy in action! I'm right there with you!

Grew up around politics - my mom & her crew "the democratic women's club" did all the grunt work for local dem campaigns. We'd leaflet houses on weekends & go to dairy queen as a reward. My folks also worked the polls every election day so guess I felt I'd "been there, done that". This year I'm making phone calls & am taking election day off to help drive folks to the polls.

Once the election dust settles, I'll get active with the dems here in Richmond - as I said, my "comfort" days are over.

9. They screwed the pooch last time around.
Everyone is on to their dirty little election stealing games. If they wanted the chimp to have a first term this time around they should have held back of some of their evil agenda. Maybe then more people would actually be willing to vote for the little puppet. When they lose and they will, no one is going to believe it was because we stole it. That's their way of 'winning' and everyone knows it. And Rover can go cheney himself.

13. That is an excellent point and needs to be a focus of the democrats
over the next several years. The power and control over the republican party by the Reich wing fundamentalists needs to be changed.
