"George Bush is the Louis Vuitton of Presidents!" says Michael Gross |
|
during a GOTV training session in Ohio, just replayed on c-span.
(He was a guest speaker, along with Meredith Baxter, his co-star from Family Ties- they played Steven and Elise Keaton)
Gross says bush has so MUCH baggage, there is no way any of the other countries in the world will work with him. This little tidbit might help you out during phone banking, depending on if the person you call knows luggage.

1. Wow, and Michael J. Fox just appeared with Kerry, too... |
|
Only people left are Tina Yothers and Justine Bateman...

5. I think I read that Justine Bateman went fundie |
|
Tina Yothers was in a punk band, so I'm sure she's on our side.
How about a Family Ties reunion show with Alex P. as a reformed Republican!? That has potential. :)
Sit Ubu, sit. Good dog.

6. They could do a clip show! |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-19-04 10:43 PM by mark0rama
Hell, during the last season or two of Family Ties, every other episode was a clip show.
On edit: According to Bateman's IMDB bio info, she turned to Christianity as a part of 12-step rehab for eating disorders. Doesn't say specifically she's fundamentalist.

7. Gross said he's a registered Indy voting for Kerry. Meredith Baxter |
|
is touring for Kerry mainly to support Michael J Fox and stem cell research. She tried to articulate how phone bankers could broach the emotional subject of stem cell research to win votes for Kerry/Edwards.
Gross said Ronald Reagan was a huge fan of the show and GBush was no Ronald Reagan. He's effusive - talked nearly nonstop. His wife is a lifelong repub and born again person who is 'holding her nose' and voting for Kerry.
Baxter was great as well, although with fewer words. They thought it appropriate to campaign in Ohio together.
The rest of the training session for GOTV was interesting. They will have a team of people set to go to designated polling places to be vote protectors - if repubs are there challenging voters (saying they can't vote) our vote protectors will step up and help make sure the person gets to vote.
They talked about needing lots of cell phones - if the volunteers could come up with as many as possible. They will have limited land line phones and can use the cell phones in myriad ways to coordinate all the inter-workings of GOTV in this precinct.

12. The Keatons were supposed to be living in Columbus, OH |
|
The producer of "family ties" said that they lived somewhere between the Clintonville and Worthington neighborhoods (where I grew up, actually). So it makes sense that they would be in Ohio; like the Drew Kerry show (Cleveland based), "Family Ties" had a huge audience there.

2. Michael J. Fox is a Kerryite himself. |
|
Looks like Alex P. Keaton finally found something he could agree with his parents about politically: Bush Sucks. ;)

13. I thought the opposite was true |
|
the black sheep of the family was Michael J. Fox's character, who was portrayed as a greedy, shallow republican who idolized Nixon.

14. you're right but it was the reagan years |
|
that prepared us for geebush....and family ties helped condition the popular opinions; though the populace resisted effort to impeach clinton they felt increasingly powerless, and gary david goldberg(?) had something to do with that

More middle Americans would get that than Louis Vuitton, I think. Funny line though. Glad to see all these great people out campaigning for Kerry.
