I love this Richard Morrison. I am sharing more than the 4 paragraphs because I know that he not going to mind at all. Besides we just donated to the ad, and we have previously donated.
http://www.blogforamerica.com/archives/005008.htmlOn Saturday, August 28th, I was honored to be asked to sit at the head table with Governor Dean at the Harris County Democratic Party's Annual Johnson-Rayburn Dinner. I was honored to share the table with the Hon. Shelia Jackson-Lee and David Van Os (another Dean Dozen Member). The dinner was a huge success and the Governor was the reason why.
Many of you who read these comments need to understand that most Democrats in Texas have lost hope in ever being victorious again. Past leadership has told us that we cannot win which has lead the Texas party down the road of defeatism. Past leadership has told us we cannot win so why should we run. We do not hold any statewide elective offices and have lost our majority in the Texas House and Senate. My opponent, Tom Delay, redistricted our state to drive out our only majority, which lies in the U.S. Congress. Many of the state's Democrats have given up.
Governor Dean inspires us to not give in to this defeatist attitude. He gives us hope that we can win. He tells us to contest every race. Stand up for your Democratic values. Tell the voters the truth, not just for the next 75 days, but continue to fight for the next two years and 75 days, for the next four years and 75 days. We must fight until Texas returns to the Democratic column. He restored our hope and our belief that we will win if we continue the fight. The next morning was my fundraiser. I need to give you some background about my campaign. It has been going great and I honestly believe I will defeat Tom Delay. As the campaign moves along, I see evidence that our message is working in District 22; a crowd of 600 people at the Fort Bend Democrat Club opening and hundreds of volunteers showing up to stuff mail at my campaign office. But this event was on a different level.
Governor Dean and I first did an interview for public radio in Houston, Texas. After the interview we drove to my event. As I walked into the VIP reception I was completely stunned because the room was so full that I could hardly move around. We then went to the ballroom which was filled with over four hundred people. As we walked in the room people rose from their chairs and gave us a standing ovation. I was honored and humbled by their response. Governor Dean gave another powerful speech which inspired the crowd as well as me.We were then off to Austin for the Democracy for Texas Rally. It was a great experience for me to be able to have the Governor for almost three hours in the car as we drove to Austin. I explained my race to him and how I am going to win, including help for Texas teachers in passing the Social Security Fairness Act; affordable quality health care for all; Light rail and commuter rail for the District; cleaning up Houston's air; funding for Homeland Security to protect Houston's ports, NASA and the largest petrochemical complex in the world. My campaign theme is "To Serve The People of District 22".
The crowd in Austin was great. Glen Maxey of Democracy for Texas had a wonderful event. I spoke and urged the crowd to "not take a nap" between now and November 2. I told them we will take back Texas if we continue to fight.
I assure each of you who read this posting that I will fight. I was born and raised in a Texas where Republicans did not exist. My Grandfather and Grandmother taught me what it meant to be a Democrat. My Grandfather served in WWII as an infantryman in the Pacific. He received the Bronze Star for bravery. He was mayor of Daingerfield, Texas. He was the head official in the Economic Development Administration for the Southwest under President Johnson. He was a respected member of the First Baptist Church in Daingerfield where he taught Sunday school. He doted on me and I loved and respected him more than anything. He and my Grandmother taught me that my life should be God, Family, and Service to Country. My Grandmother always told me, "you must take responsibility for your actions." They lead by example. They were Democrats. How could I not be a Democrat after the example of their lives?
I will fight until my beloved Texas is back in the Democratic column. Before Governor Dean, I was committed to fighting alone if need be. Now I know that I have a great ally who will help me with the fight....."END SNIP
