Reuters Poll: Bush and Kerry Still in Dead Heat
Wed Oct 20, 2004 07:01 AM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush and Democratic Sen. John Kerry remain tied for the third consecutive day in the race for the White House, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

Less than two weeks before the Nov. 2 election, Bush and Kerry were deadlocked at 46 percent in the latest three-day tracking poll. They were tied at 45 percent the previous two days.

About 6 percent of likely voters are still undecided between the president and the Massachusetts senator, who clashed on Tuesday over Kerry's claims that Bush wants to privatize the Social Security retirement system. Bush accused Kerry of "scare tactics."

"With Bush and Kerry now tied among seniors, small wonder that Kerry is pushing hard on Social Security," said pollster John Zogby. He said Democrat Al Gore pressed the same issue in the late stages of the 2000 campaign and came out ahead among senior voters -- but lost the race to Bush.

8. That ought to win the race for Kerry
Is it just early and I am not thinking straight? What else would decide the race? Perhaps the rate at which the fundamentalists vote?

3. Bwahahahaha - chimp's approval in the tank
The number of likely voters who thought Bush deserved re-election was 46 percent and the number who wanted someone new was 50 percent. Only 44 percent rated Bush's presidential performance as excellent or good, while 55 percent said it was fair or poor.

4. Several polls I saw
from FL, showed Kerry ahead among seniors. He'll come out ahead. They aren't buying Bush's BS regarding the prescription drug bill, the importing of drugs, the flu vaccines (they're probably the group affected most by this), and last but not least social security.

10. The Flu Vaccine Is A Big Issue
That's all my 74 year old mother-in-law and her friends are talking and talking about. It's both not getting it (or the stories they've heard about others who tried), but how this thing got all screwed up. Also it opens the door to the problems these people have had with insurance, rising drug costs and SSI checks that cover less and less.

Between the 18-25 year olds who don't believe there won't be a draft and the seniors who are getting very upset over being tossed aside by this regime, I'm seeing the age jaws clamping in on Bunnypants and these morans are too ignorant to see it. Serves 'em right.

7. K, Bush's number needs to stop right there.
He needs to stay at 47% or below, no matter what.

11. What I thought was interesting was they both picked up 1%
I had hoped as people 'decided', it would break 2 to 1 for Kerry--of course, I guess, this is an awful small movement and probably not too significant.

12. Inside the Numbers
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 06:46 AM by louis c
you may get a statistical change for "rounding". If for example, Kerry went from 44.7%-46.2% that would be 45% going to 46%. Bush could have gone from 45.4% to 45.6%, and that would be rounded also be 45% going to 46%. These are not actual numbers, but an example of how those changes would show undecideds moving toward Kerry, but not show up in a poll that rounds to the whole number.

The answer to your question is we really can't tell by these numbers, and it just goes to show you how close this election really is, that we are now talking about tenths of a point.

14. I'm Beginning To Think Kerry Can Lose The Pop Vote And Win The EC
as long as the pop vote margin is smaller...

I see Kerry winning vote rich Cali and NY by smaller margins and losing deep south states and TX by bigger margins...

Furthermore I see Kerry doing a bit better in some Rust Belt states...
