Nickelodeon kids pick Kerry
Kids Pick Kerry to Be the Next President

NEW YORK - Kid power! Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites) is the winner, and the rest of the country should pay attention because the vote on Nickelodeon's Web site has correctly chosen the president of the United States in the past four elections.

Nearly 400,000 children and teens voted, and the results were released Wednesday. Kerry received 57 percent of the vote; President Bush (news - web sites) got 43 percent.

Nickelodeon has been airing information on the Nov. 2 election, plus sponsoring debates where kids could put forth their views on the environment, the war in Iraq (news - web sites) and terrorism. Some animated shows on the cable channel also have been focusing on the election.

Linda Ellerbee, who writes and hosts "Nick News," says their voting usually reflects their parents' views — but not all the time.

2. I remember this stuff back in 2000
I think it's very good that Nickelodeon is doing things like this. It is also a sad state of affairs that probably every one of these kids are more informed than your average voter (obviously, they picked Kerry. LOL!) But anyway, I think that it is great that not only is Nickelodeon feeding its viewers cartoons and kid's shows, but also informing them about what's going on in the world. It's too bad CNN doesn't do that as well!

4. My 5-year-old son was SO excited to vote at Nick
Guess I'm raising a political wonk, because even at his age, he's terribly interested in every facet of this election. He still laughs about how George Bush drank water from an empty glass at the debate! And no, I did not point it out to him, he noticed it before I did. LOL I asked him what he likes best about John Kerry: "I like him because he had a very tall microphone and George Bush's microphone was very small. And he rides a motorcycle!" (OK, so my son isn't issue-driven yet.......)

5. My kids couldn't wait to vote for Senator Kerry on Nickelodeon
My 12 year old also voted for Kerry/Edwards at his middle school. He doesn't know when the results will be announced, though. One of his teachers even managed to get some "I Voted" stickers to give the kids after they cast their votes. They felt very much a part of this election, after that.
