MASON CITY, Iowa (Reuters) - President Bush charged on Wednesday that Democrat John Kerry has a "fundamental misunderstanding" of the war on terrorism because a leader in the Iraqi insurgency, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, has sworn allegiance to Osama bin Laden.
"Zarqawi is a terrorist. We are fighting Mr. Zarqawi in Iraq (news - web sites). My opponent seems to think that if we were not fighting in Iraq, he would become a peaceful citizen. Zarqawi would be plotting, planning, ready to strike. He must be defeated there, so we do not face him here," Bush said in a Reuters interview aboard Air Force One.
Bush, also campaigning in the swing state of Iowa, reminded supporters at a rally that recently "Zarqawi publicly announced his sworn allegiance to Osama bin Laden." Bush's position is that Iraq is a central front in the war on terrorism, not a diversion from it as Kerry claims.
"You cannot lead our nation to decisive victory, on which the security of every American family depends, if you do not see the true dangers of a post-September 11th world," Bush said.

John Kerry has a "pre-9/11 mind-set."
"It's absolutely essential that we stay on offense," Cheney told 100 supporters at a restaurant in the Flint-area community of Clio. "I don't think there's any way we can successfully prosecute this conflict if we try to retreat behind our oceans."
Kerry's record in the Senate "does not instill in me any confidence that he would aggressively pursue the war on terror the way I think it needs to be pursued," Cheney said. "I'm fearful that John Kerry has that kind of pre-9/11 mind-set."

2. Ok, who is waging a one-dimensional campaign of "blow up the bad guys (and the collateral damage)," but has no plan for winning the hearts and minds of the Middle East, let alone an economic plan to alleviate the poverty, corruption and ignorance that doom the region to the hopelessness that feeds terrorism?
3. Ok, who is refusing to correct the moronic policy of doling out Homeland Security equally rather than according to threat levels?
4. Which reminds me, who still refuses to localize heightened terror alerts?
5. Finally, who had THREE FUCKING OPPORTUNITIES to capture or kill Zarqawi during the run-up to the war, but REFUSED to bolster the case against Iraq?
