Great News from Serious Republican Territory-Montgomery County, TX
I was phone banking last night for a couple of hours here in the heart of enemy territory. Granted, I spoke with more Bushleviks than voters for Kerry, but I was heartened, so heartened, by this.

TT: Hello, do you have a moment to participate in a Presidential survey of voters here in Montgomery County?

Deep East Texas Drawl: Why, I guess so.

TT: (after asking first question of when she planned to vote) So, since you have already voted, do you mind telling me who you voted for?

DETD: Well, I'm a Republican, but I just couldn't vote for Bush again. I think he really messed things up. And you just wouldn't believe it. I was at the polls the first day early voting started and there were so many people I heard saying that they were voting for Kerry. This is my first time to vote for someone other than a Republican. I thought I would be the only one, but there were lots of people there talking about voting for Kerry.

This was not the only time last night I heard this from people who early voted. I had a lot of people on my list who said they were voting Democratic when they had voted Republican in 2004.

Take heart! :bounce:

8. North of Houston about 30 Miles
Or it used to be, before urban sprawl has virtually joined the two. Conroe is the county seat.

7. Don't Discount The Whisper Campaign
I talked to a friend in Florida who is voting early this weekend and she's been surprised how many people she's encountered who've either voted already or plan to do so...and almost all voted for Kerry. The buzz getting around her town is this is what everyone is doing.

At first I was concerned about possible fraud with having the balloting start so early, but the more I'm hearing these stories the more I like!

That IS good news. It is SERIOUS GOP territory. Briefly lived in The Woodlands and have cousins in Conroe.

15. That just rocks!
Very good news! I voted yesterday for Kerry, in San Antonio. My polling place was full of mostly seniors, with a few young people. No one was really saying anything political and I listen intently for just that kind of conversation. The only person who I could tell for sure was voting for Kerry, was a young 20 something who had a Dave Matthews Band shirt on! I think that was a given.

16. So I have to jump in with a story.
A friend who voted for Reagan twice, George HW twice, Shrub once told me that he could not bring himself to vote for Shrub again. He This is from a guy who is a card carrying RNC member - I saw the thing in his wallet! He lives smack in the middle of repug hell in Highland Park. Today he early voted for John Kerry.

Yes, Virginia, there IS a Santa Clause.

*thud* pick me up off the floor someone.
