First, as smart a guy as Karl Rove is, I don't see how he could possibly know that the series would go to 7 days.

Second, the last time a debate was held so close to the election was in 1980, and many attribute Reagan's victory to his debate performance. That's why we'll never see a debate held so close to election day again.
