4. I thought Gates threw his money to a lot of different charities |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 05:20 PM by Catch22Dem
I know I saw a report saying he gave away several billion dollars. Of course it's a write-off, but he could have just kept it to himself.
ON EDIT: Yes, Michael Dell donates exclusively to repukes, but I'm seeing A LOT more donations to "D" than "R" on the Gates page. On two pages for Gates, I counted 41 Democrats and 3 repukes.

5. It would suck if my Republican clients stopped doing business with me |
|
because I'm a Democrat.
There are valid reasons to boycott companies, but simply being owned by a Republican is not one of them, IMHO. Especially if we ever do want to again live in America where Republicans and Democrats can talk rationally about their differences and work together when possible for the common good.

Here's the Open Secrets file on Gates--it ain't at all pretty. http://www.opensecrets.org/indivs/search.asp?txtName=gates%2C+william&NumOfThou=0&txt2004=YPlease note: he did offer a generous $500 donation to John Kerry. That's kind of like me offering them 5 paper clips.

you never go back.
I run a lab full of machines -- Linux, Unix, XP, and Macs. I am fluent in all of these OS's, though I only develop on Mac OSX/BSD Unix. The Macs are better for almost everything we do (video/audio/media, web design, database), last longer, are easier for students to learn complex apps on, and are *cheaper* in total cost of ownership. Customer service is awesome. Machines are beautiful and crank.
Apple just lowered prices on iBooks. An iBook 12" with a combo (CDRW +DVD-read only) and airport wireless is only $1000. My iBook is a think of incredible toughness and beauty. I've dropped it a dozen times, and it keeps on cookin'
Apple has the best domestic partner benefits in its industry, and that is saying something.
They are quite liberal in their political support
Plus John Kerry uses a Mac. Nuf said!

I've had bad experiences with the half dozen Dells I've bought for my lab in the last couple of years. Lately we've been buying Sony Vaio for comodity PCs (about to get an Alienware athlon 64, however, which is another story). Sonys have been pretty good for reliability.

20. You should be building your own computers, anyway. |

The Ars Technica budget box is faster than most Dells and made of better components for $747.50 before shipping and handling. http://arstechnica.com/guides/buyer/system-09-21-2004.ars/2You've got to come up with your own operating system, though.

25. Gates is a closet Democrat |
|
He has always sided with liberal causes and also contributed large sums of money to them.
However he has a beef with the CLinton admin. because it was then that the DOJ was trying to break up his company, and it was Bush's admin that saved it. Quite understandably he has to show some gratefulness and there is nothing unreasonable about that. But deep in his core he is a liberal just like his buddy Warren Buffet.

28. Michael Dell has an awesome mansion in Austin, Texas |
|
It's huge, complete with walking trails that have mist systems to cool off those to venture out in the Texas heat. Why would he not support the chimp? Rich people think it's their Gawd given right not to have to pay taxes. Wasn't it Leona Helmsly who said that taxes are only for the little people? On her way to prison the tax evasion............LOL It's the Marie Antoinette syndrome. Justice was served in that case!

29. Dell Inc. does not support any political candidate.... |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 06:17 PM by MazeRat7
That being said, every member of the executive staff is free to contribute as they see fit. Executives are mostly republican ergo they support Bush.... This has nothing to do with the 40,000+ people that the company employs (with benefits). Making statements like the topic of your post shows nothing more than ignorance about the system, a misunderstanding of business, and cast those hard working folks that are doing right and playing by the rules in an unfavorable light.
Get your facts right before making blanket statements that "Dell" supports "Bush".
