RUMSFELD TOLD SOLDIERS IT IS THEIR DUTY TO VOTE FOR BUSH

On radio station KMBZ 980am in Kansas City at around 5:40 p.m. (it just happened)a soldier from Leavenworth called in and said that Rumsfeld was at Fort Leavenworth yesterday.

He was taking soldiers in small groups to talk to and the soldiers had to sign some kind of waiver.

He told the soldiers it was their "DUTY" to vote for Bush.

The soldier was afraid his voice would be recognized on the radio.

My Mom just heard this on the radio and called and told me so I could post it. She is calling the station to try and find out more.

Edit to add: A women called in after this soldier and said Rummy wasn't there. If he was, her husband would have known.

Doew anyone know where Rummy was yesterday?

Church/Mosque/Temple leaders, employers, lords, club presidents and the like have been using this kind of language for millenia to rope in the sheep.

It is unethical--lame even; however, how is it illegal? He's a civilian employee that Serves At the Pleasure of the President. Though he has policy-level jurisdiction regarding what the military is sent to do and how it might be sent to do it, I would maintain that anyone that would hear that sort of drivel and take it as any more than a stumping politician--well---stumping is lost to our cause regardless.

I am proud of anyone that might find themselves in that sort of situation who ignores this sort of attempt at manipulation.

Everyone is gifted with the ability to think and make decisions. As much as I dislike Mr. Rumsfeld, not even he has the ability to force any one of his audience (military or no) to vote for PGWB.

The voting booths are private. Even someone who has not the strongest of wills has the privilege and right to make their individual decision on election day. Regardless of what they might say or insinuate after they return to their quarters or while training, on maneuvers or deployed to fellow soldiers, commanders or family members, the box/circle/touch-screen they fill-in/punch/touch will reflect their convictions, thoughts and vision. Not someone else's. Not Mr. Rumsfeld's.

As with all citizens, _that_ is their obligation.

That is their DUTY.

but as I've been told by several friends who've been in Iraq, Soldiers are under TREMENDOUS pressure to vote for Bush. They're almost scared not to do so.

may count the votes. Is that true? If it is, you can see why they would be scared.

If they are absentee, the envelopes say who is the voter.

I would think they would get sent to the states like the others but I don't know anything about military ballots.
