What was Robertson doing?
Obviously this statement is great and it puts the W in a helluva box, but what is the consensus on where this nutcase was coming from, did he just get carried away or is there some bad blood with the Bushes, perhaps dating back to the '88 primaries?

1. Telling the truth
He missed the memo that said don't tell the truth until the election is over.

4. Well sure
there's that, but I mean this is a pretty big gaffe politically speaking, and for a nutcase that speaks in tongues and heals the infirm over the television I think he has more political savvy than that.

2. Just letting the Saved know that Robertson's Gawd is more accurate
than Smirky's Gawd.

Its the historic battle between bishops and kings. Ain't Theocracy Grand?

13. was Billy Graham actually
G.H.W. Bush and Barbara were miffed at how Junior was in a drunken stupor at some party so they flew Graham up to the family digs in Kennebunkport to walk on the beach with Dubya and tell him to get right with God. And God only knows how effective THAT was. I believe Graham is a real Christian but I do not see Dubya being that.

5. He wants something...
Bush must have shorted him on $$$ for some sleazy "program"--so he's sending Bush a signal that he isn't kicking enough his way.

These P's OS operate like the mob -- only the mob is more ethical!

6. I watched the clip
I took it as ....he got caught up in the moment. As he and Zahn were sitting and talking he was chatting with her as if it were a personal and private conversation. He didn't stress on those words they rolled off his tongue and he was quickly talking about something else. Sometimes these trained liars just fuck up and he certainly did!

7. He called Bushf
a "contented Christian", a Mark Twain quote. But when Mark Twain says "contented Christian," he means stupid, arrogant bastard. Most people don't know he was an atheist.

8. God told him to say it...
Actually, I think it can be directly traced to the fact that Robertson is 100% crazy. If you build your base on a bunch of fundamentalist nutjobs, you can't start crying when they turn on you.

9. Who cares?
I couldn't care less what Robertson says or does. I think you might be drawing too many conclusions if you think most Republicans care either.

10. Well I don't see how
calling Pat Robertson a liar will help Bush with his base in Virginia. I think you might be surprised how many fundies care what he says.

12. Well I don't know, but you just got to love....
a good old fashioned church fight, hope it does a few news cycles. Isn't really any more illuminating to us DU people re: Bush, but it is entertaining political theatre.....
