Tom DeLay polling at 47%!!!
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 08:14 PM by crispini
Email from the Morrison campaign... contribute NOW if ya got it. Let's EXTERMINATE the EXTERMINATOR!

New Poll Confirms that DeLay is in Danger

This is a race. DeLay and Club for Growth have bought a combined $500,000 in TV ads. DeLay even showed up and debated Richard last night in Clear Lake. A new third party poll shows that DeLay at 47%-- traditionally the kiss of death for incumbents.

That's the good news -- the bad news is that Richard Morrison's name ID is only 50% in the district. Our cable ads have brought him halfway there, but we need to raise another $100,000 in the next few days to place a broadcast TV buy to put Richard over the top. Please click here to make it happen: http://www.morrisonfor22.com/contribute/contribute.php

Here's what DailyKos had to say:

Good government watchdog group Campaign Money Watch and Democracy for America are entering the fray in DeLay's district, taking him to task for, well, being an all-around scumbag. I mean, it takes some real hard work to be admonished by the ethics committee three times in a week, while having a fourth charge deferred pending the outcome of a criminal investigation.

Club for Growth is now running ads for DeLay in the district. Club for Growth wouldn't be throwing money at this race if they weren't worried about DeLay's chances.

Remember when we first contributed to this race? Morrison was a nobody. My hope was to simply force DeLay to campaign more in the district, thus keeping him from campaigning and fundraising for other Republicans. Now Morrison is a serious candidate with a legitimate chance to win.

Amazing.

Let's pull this off -- please contribute here to help Richard make it over the top: http://www.morrisonfor22.com/contribute/contribute.php

thank you so much,

Kyle Johnston, Campaign Manager
Morrison for Congress

6. Not to be a wet blanket
but I think the 50% rule really only applies to national elections. Delay is still pretty solid, especially if you factor in that the election is at the same time as the presidential election. If this were an off-year election than you would have a chance of a good turnout, but since most of his heavily Republican district will be coming to the polls to vote for Bush, they'll vote Republican for the rest of the races too.

13. I believe you, but
I think that for every Republican that votes for Bush and against Delay, there are 3 guys who came in to vote for Bush, don't know any of the other candidates, and wind up voting straight party.

39. I think a lot of Republicans will just not vote this year
I don't think Bush* is all that appealing to a good portion of Republicans and yet they won't allow themselves to vote Democratic. I think the way they will justify it in their minds is to just sit this one out. We can win this folks. We need to really help out as much as we possibly can and then no matter what happens we will know deep down that we did everything possible to put America back on the right path.

14. Started seeing BugMan's slimy mug on TV ads this week
Had a good belly laugh over his "warm & fuzzy" ads!
All positive and downright squishy.

I mean, it really was hysterical, no joke!
Never mentioned Morrison, guess they thought they had to project some positivity, which is a riot considering how much of a raging hard-on DeLay gets from being known as "The Hammer", a real hard ass.

The funniest part of all is how BugMan has been FORCED to do some advertising face time.

Morrison must be seriously having an impact for Cardinal Richelieu to deign to start doing TV.

HAHAHAHAHA

24. I'm in DeCay's District
I already have a Morrison sign in my front yard, and there are a lot of them (and I live in a quite upscale area). I saw there was a link to a group (527?)that wanted to, like citizens for growth, run some ads from outside. I want to give to a media group that has muscle to come up with tv media that might make a difference.

I'm giving cash, but what is the flip side of this "club for growth" that I could contribute to?

33. Send your money to a Democrat who actually has a shot at winning
Martin Frost is in a tight race with Pete Sessions. This is one of the best chances a Democrat has of knocking off a Republican incumbent. Even if many of the Republicans in DeLay's district do not like them, quite a few will hold thier nose and still vote for him rather than a Democrat.

36. Hey, I'm all for Frost, too, but what's with the negativity?
Morrison's got a GREAT chance at winning. He got the endorsement of the Chron and what with DeLay and the BNSF scandal, I think the constituents are really beginning to realize that DeLay doesn't give a rat's a** about them, he's just out for his own personal power.

There are Bush / Morrison signs up in the district... a good sign. :D

38. I agree, Morrison has a GREAT chance of winning, he needs a final push
from all of us.

Most telling are the VERY RECENT and uproariously funny TV ads for DeLay.

They are funded by both the RNC and the parasites from the Club For Growths.
The Club For Growths would not swoop in w/such a sunny, cheery, breezy ad for DeLay unless they thought he was in REAL trouble - remember how they zeroed in on Howard Dean in the primaries???
Those were negative to the point of absurdity (latte-drinking, Volvo-driving, NY Times reading, etc).

My point being, DeLay's district has suffered huge embarrassment being "represented" by him and his horrendous reputation.
The most ethics violations of any House member - ever - is quite the black eye and makes you wonder what DeLay is doing in their name in D.C.

The fact that these ads NEVER mention Richard Morrison or go negative / dirty speaks volumes about the tightrope they are walking and their desperate attempts to make him more palatable.

Please also remember that DeLay has always considered himself way above having to advertise for votes.
For him to authorize ads at this late date shows he knows how far down from that high horse he has fallen.

Let's help Richard make the final stretch and get rid of the most corruptive element in the US Congress:

37. This is good news even if DeLay is re-elected
The fact that the GOP has to spend money on what should be a safe congressional seat means they won't spend it somewhere else. Hopefully, if DeLay is returned to Congress, it will be as minority leader. Better yet, the GOP congressmen will come to their senses and choose a reasonable, fair-minded leader to replace DeLay.
