4. You don't want Kerry tied to the Red Sox
The Red Sox will not win the World Series this year. It makes me cringe that people here think there is some sort of mystical tie in between the Sox and Kerry.

If you want to tie it in,tie it in to the Patriots. At least they know how to win the big one.

And since you've been a long time fan, you above all people should know they will blow it eventually. It's not a question of if but when. Shit, I wouldn't be shocked to see them blow a 6-0 lead and lose this one.

15. Not this year (he said, again)

I grew up with Carl Yaztremski posters all over my bedroom. I have suffered. I have bled. I have cried. I have screamed at the TV and sworn I would never watch another game. I get a lump in my throat at the very words "green monster." I remember Jim Rice and Wade Boggs and Bob Stanley and Carlton Fisk like old friends.

Something is different this year. I've suffered through every single tragedy with this team. It has never felt like this.

I like you have cried, bled, and suffered over the Sox for 30 years. What convinces you this year will be different? A serious question.

38. Gut feeling

I've never seen them more of a team than this year, less a bunch of stars. They have steady solid pitching and a deep bullpen, which has rarely been true in the past. They have awesome heart. They never coast. They are loose and gutsy. They aren't scared of the Yankees, which is rare. They get their ass kicked 19-8 and come back to win three straight games in heart-stopping fashion. Curt Schilling pitches with a bleeding ankle. Ortiz comes through with a hit in the clutch every time he has to. But in the end it's a gut feeling I have never had in all the years of averting my eyes.

51. Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson took the D'Backs
over the Yankees in 2001, in a Series that went into November because of delays after 9/11. The Diamondbacks were so new, no one expected anything of them, and there were those of us who were just delighted when they won Game 1, to assure that they wouldn't be swept.

After losing three heart-breaker games in NYC -- and being told that the Yankees "deserved" to win for NYC after 9/11 -- they came back to Phoenix and trounced the Yankees in game 6. My son called me on the phone and asked if I was watching the game. "No," I said, "I don't want to jinx it." "Shit, Mom, turn it on!" he screamed back. "We're head like fucking 12 to nothing!"

Game 7 was incredible, with the D'Backs pulling it out in the bottom of the 9th.

Never give up. Always believe.

Tansy Gold, raised a Cubs and White Sox fan who hates the Yankees and who absolutely loathes RW puke Jerry Colangelo and won't even watch D'Backs games any more but cherishes her SRO ticket stubs from Game 2 in 2001.

It does feel 'different.'

If you remember Yaz, you must remember that game when Tony Conigliaro got beaned in the head. They changed the helmets because of him...

Boy, that was painful, those times.

But it does feel more hopeful this year. Fingers crossed~!

If Boston wins, it's a sign from the Bambino. But according to legend, if the American League loses, the Democrat wins. On the other hand, the American League won in 1960, when Kennedy won. So..... GO Boston!!!!

A Sox/Astros World Series. But let's not tag that series as
Shrub v Kerry matchup. I've been an Astros fan since a kid (I'm 46) and rememeber, at least the sox have been there before (1918), the Astros havn't. Also - I don't think Shrub ever gave a shit about the Astros - He was an American league guy.

Yankees just scored. It's 6-1 Sox bottom of 3rd

22. I saw Kerry in Pgh tonight - he mentioned the BoSox but
just briefly. He basically said that they already created history (getting to the 7th game) and that we'd make history on Nov. 2nd when we have a new President.

I too don't want to see Kerry get too tied to the Sox either but I Boston-Houston World Series (Kerry-Bush) would be sweet with a sweep by the Red Sox and a landslide by Kerry.

(However, I wouldn't mind seeing Houston lose the NLCS either)

42. No they didn't
I live in NYC now (try being a Sox fan in this town this week! It's like being a liberal in rural Texas, which I was too).

The Yankees are fighting with heart too. They are stunned, but they don't give up. This is a great series, a great matchup for the ages. Other than A. Rod, whose unsportsmanlike conduct almost makes up for the shitty way Pedro acted last year when he hit Zimmer (who will always be an honorary Red Sox manager to me), the Yanks have impressed me this time, and if they win they will have deserved it and I will root for them in the series.

45. I don't doubt they will fight
...but those dugout shots make them look like they are on death row.

I didn't think much of A Rod's stunt--what a sissy. But as for Pedro, what the hell was he gonna do? Zimmer APOLOGIZED FOR THAT, if you remember. He was in TEARS, and took all the blame, as HE SHOULD HAVE. Zimmer CHARGED Pedro, all Pedro did to him was a bullfighting routine--he stepped to the side and put him on the ground. He didn't beat on the ole fool, but he was pitching, and what if that guy decided to start whaling on his fingers or something?

That really isn't a fair comparison in terms of egregious behavior!

58. Yea, you are right about that
...but Zimmer should have stayed on the bench.

As I recall, the ump sanctioned Pedro for that pitch, and Zimmer for charging, and you are right, he should not have tossed those wild ones. Garcia was taunting, and Pedro just wasn't playing. Also, I seem to remember there was some beaning going on against the Sox too--someone got nailed really bad, Mueller, maybe?...it was a grudge-mean pissing contest on both sides. That was a rough game...but Zimmer should have just set his fat ass down.

He did do the right thing by apologizing, though, so that counts for something.

52. I was born and raised in the Bronx, so I am suffering right now, but...
I can accept a Boston win tonight on one condition: the momentum from this win *must* carry over to John Kerry. I believe that a Red Sox win will unite all of New England and thus give us the swing states of New Hampshire and Maine, and in turn, the election.

So with that said, I will take off my Yankees cap and bow to the Red Sox tonight. Bring it home Sox and bring it home John Kerry! :)

Getting three when you are down by three is a miracle. A win by the Sox tonight would surely be seen as a sign from God, and most of the people who regarded it as such would be the very Catholic population of greater Boston!!

70. win or lose...
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 10:14 PM by batchdem04
this might the dumbest move I have ever seen. I still cannot see one valid reason to bring Pedro in, esp with Lowe doing so good.

Is Bush managing?

72. BELLHORN!!!!!!!! 9-3!!!!!!!!! 8th INNING!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, yes, YES!!!!

I think Pedro finally settled down toward the end of the 7th. He always does that shit--scares ya, and then either settles down or doesn't. Hopefully he will be ON in the 9th, and that will be that.

73. Bellhorn's made himself into a hero...Captain Strikeout the first three
and then a 3 run HR and a solo HR in the last two.

74. Timlin warming up
I think they wanted Pedro to have a piece of the win, but he was shaky. Timlin is in the pen, but who knows, they may put him back in. Hasten, Jason, with the basin--come on!

78. First team to come back from 3-0 and win
My daughter avid sports nut told me that. I think having Boston win and Kerry's team is a great thing. It would be funny if Houston won and it was Texas against Boston!

82. ONE MORE OUT, yet
Embree is going in. Three little strikes, that is all we need. A pop fly. Fast grounder to first. Anything.

I just want this to be over! Who the hell buys the commercial time right before the last out? Who can watch that shit! Everyone is screaming down at the Cask! And probably every other "bah" in New England!
