1. Well, you're talking about wealthy folks...
...who don't like to pay taxes.

The real question is how many are moderates, as opposed to hard right Republicans?

14. It doesn't matter their motivation.
If they are Pugs they are shitheads. They'll vote for a useless turd like Bush* in spite of the damage he's doing to our country and the world.

28. I disagree
There is a world of difference between a moderate Republican and a hard right Republican.

Frankly, the gap between a moderate Republican and a moderate Democrat is very small -- Clinton was often as much a conservative and he was a progressive.

If you're going to call all Republicans shitheads because they'll "vote for a useless turd like Bush," you are betraying a kind of ignorance that does not serve any party well.

Nice job. Of course you should know that you're wasting electrons on people who refuse to think rationally. But then again, it is nice to hear someone say something sane once in a while. Just remember that anyone can get on a computer and type. You may be chastising a marginally-minded nincompoop, or even a Freeper poser. You never know.

Call an idiot an idiot, if it pleases you. But don't spend too much time writing to people who obviously don't spend too much time thinking.

Speaking of Bestiality Rick, anyone here know that Dan Savage of the Savage Love column sponsored a contest (upon hearing of Rick's comments equating consensual homosexuality to bestiality and incest) to determine what "santorum" should be slang for? The winner is truly nasty, but you'll have to google it (it should be near the top of non-Senator hits under "santorum"), as it may not be fit for even these liberal and open forums..;

He has the sleazy GOP gene--he had a hot affair with the cheerleading coach at his alma mater, Notre Dame. The details were really disgusting...in that they were so PATHETIC. His wife Joy was not feeling much joy at that news.

And he was once partnered (in the entertainment field, not personally) with the most famous Gay Republican of all, Merv Griffin, late of the MERV GRIFFIN SHOW and owner of Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune (Pat Sajak is another--Republican, that is) and a host of other programs--he is rich as a Roosevelt.

Hand over fist. Taxes are for little people.

Definately a Democrat.

He once gave to Arlan Spectors campaign and to Joe Paterno's(R) run for political office out of loyalty for his former coach. Most all his of his other contributions were for Democrats.

...I suspect this is what their party affiliations are - doesn't mean they're going to vote for Bush, this time, anyway. The way Lou Dobbs (correctly and thankfully) gnaws on that outsourcing bone every night, and on the economic catastrophe Bush has created, I'd be shocked to find out he's going to vote for Bush. Yet he clearly is a traditional Republican.

It is surprising about Ron Howard, though. I would never have guessed it. Yet, again... who knows how some of these celebs are going to vote in 2 weeks. I'll bet a lot of this comes from support for the war following 9/11; many may have changed their minds.

His dad's a whoop-de-do Republican in his hometown. support for Bush. I know Drew Carey said not too long ago he wasn't going to vote. Also the dead ones who knows what they would do today. The Republican party wasn't hijacked by the far right wing nuts when they were alive. Also just because Rob Lowe supported Arnold doesn't mean he has changed parties. He supported a friend. It makes the whole list suspect except for the obvious. List for dems is much bigger and better too!

How in the world is an HIV positive black man a Republican? For some reason, I highly doubt that one. He probably works with both sides to get whatever agenda he needs passed and therefore they call him a Republican.

If someone has any other info I would appreciate it because I was getting ready to go to his new movie theatre that's not too far away and I'll cancel my plans if this is confirmed.

Some are put here because they may have donated to a Republican in the past. For example, Anderson Cooper made a donation to a Republican congressional candidate in the past year or two. For all we know, it may have been a family friend.

I highly doubt some of this. Some of the names are either Democrats, independents, or non-political.

Said earlier this year that the story got around because he once told his grandmother that he was going to run for Gov. of Alabama as a Republican. He said that he was joking when he said it and that he can't stand Bush.

I think this list is a Republican product, because they don't have a corresponding list of Democratic celebrities. Several on that list are highly doubtful.

76. Maybe this will help... some of these are outright lies.
The Repugs have a little habit of "claiming' every celebrity they can, often based on wild assumptions.

They advertised in a widely circulated press release this past summer that Steven Tyler of Aerosmith was a Bush supporter. I saw Steven this summer and politics was mentioned. He's KERRY ALL THE WAY. In fact, if you go to fundrace.org and look up his real name (Tallarico), you'll see that his wife Teresa donated to the Kerry campaign. His daughter Mia is RABIDLY anti- Bush. The mere mention of his name causes the obscenities to fly from her mouth.

In the same press release that mentioned Steven, they "outed" Mandy Moore as a Republican. Well, some of you may have heard soon after that the poor girl was VERY pi**sed and issued a press release of her own, stating that she is not nor has she ever BEEN a Repug...

Billy Bob Thornton is another Kerry supporter and is a good friend of Bill Clinton's. I see him on RW celeb lists all the time. www.celiberal.com has him on their RW list because he donated baby wipes to troops in Iraq. So I guess kindness to those suffering in this horrible mess of a war makes you a RWer.

There are more...

My point is, don't worry too much if someone you respect(ed) is on the list unless you hear it "from the horse's mouth". They'll say ANYTHING to drum up support, even falsely claiming celebrity support. Some of these celebs should sue for defamation of character!

Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 11:08 PM by fishwax
I don't know where they got it, but I suspect it was from a web site that I saw recently (can't remember the site, found it in a DU thread) that listed "conservative" celebrities. But the "evidence" they listed for some of the celebrities were things like quotes where they supported the troops. As we all know, supporting the troops does not a conservative make.

Matthew McConaghey is on this list. Nobody arrested for playing drums naked in public while smoking marijuana can really be considered conservative ... :D

122. but oh, oh yes
"While sermonizing against terrorist methods in the fight against social inequality in poor countries, Malkovich has advocated assassinating opponents of the American government. He provoked a fury last year when, while addressing students at the Cambridge Union in England, the actor casually mentioned that he would like to shoot independent journalist Robert Fisk and Glasgow Labour MP George Galloway. Both Fisk and Galloway have been critics of US involvement in the Middle East, Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as Israeli repression of the Palestinians.

Malkovich has also vilely fulminated in support of the death penalty. The Chicago Tribune quoted him as saying: “America’s left wing wants criminals coddled, and no one wants to be punished. I would have no problem pushing the switch while having dinner.”"

--From the World Socialist Web site review of "The Dancer Upstairs"

Apparently, after some research, both Mr. Vaughn and Mr. Malkovich are right wingers. Mr. Vaughn more moderate than Mr. Malkovich. My heart is shattered into ten thousand pieces.

As far as I know, anyone can add or change content to Wikipedia. This was originally supposed to make sure that more people would be able to catch and correct errors, but sometimes crap like this list can slip in. Any of us should feel free to correct these mistakes (or deliberate freeper or other forgeries, I'm almost surprised John Kerry and John Edwards aren't on this list, along with Jesus, Moses, and perhaps even Mohammed).

Also, I have to wonder how many of these celebs registered Repug (if they in fact did) in order to vote in Repug primaries.

There's simply no evidence that any of the mentioned athletes are Republicans.

And I'm tired of seeing Jason Priestley on these lists. He's not a Republican and he's not even American, for Christ's sake!

135. Lots of false claims on there
Like kevin Costner, who is pulling for Kerry, Tom Berenger - seems to me the only donations he's made have been to Max Cleland, Clint Eastwood is a Libertarian, more liberal than conservative. Half that list is suspect.

137. Typical. They want to discount "leftist" celebrities
while claiming some celebrities for their own.

I actually heard some talk radio crackpot discussing this and he was basically just saying you was "conservative" based on his observations. Among the list: Will Smith & Oprah Winfrey (because he "had to get some black people on the list.")

150. Much of this is heresay. Most of the football players they have on there,
Brett Favre included, have never made a donation or a comment. If they comment on 9/11 some idiot will put them in the RW column. It's a joke. Come on folks, let's choose up sides for the ultimate game of elimination. /sarcasm off.

155. Not a great list
No new revelations, and as some as pointed out, it has some mistakes and questionable entries.
