Gephardt using Kondracke and WSJ quotes to attack Dean?
--snip--

Dick Gephardt, who won the Iowa caucus in 1988, but faces a much stiffer challenge this time around, is the candidate most frequently going negative, and the negative pieces are targeting his main rival, Howard Dean. The best example of this in the past two weeks is a full-size piece that shows Dean with mouth open, and the word "CAUGHT" at the bottom. Open up the piece, and it's a repeat of the Dean head shot on the left, with text across the top that reads "Howard Dean Tried to Deny Supporting Republican Medicare Cuts -- But He Got Caught". Then, on the right side are four quotes exposing Dean's denials (two from Morton Kondracke in Roll Call; one from Al Hunt, Wall Street Journal; and one from David Goldstein, Kansas City Star). That's it -- nothing comparative in the ad, no mention of Gephardt's record on Medicare.

1. Why is the fact that Gephart is the most negative candidate not reported?
Why do we always hear "Dean, Dean, Dean" when everyone mentions negative campaigning, when it's Gephart who stands head and shopulders above everyone else in this regard?

4. This jibes with my research as well
For my website ( http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com ) I've been doing candidate reviews; and so have come to know each candidates webpage pretty well.

Two things strike me about Gephardt. One, he really is pretty convinced that Foreign Policy and Homeland Security issues aren't going to be that important in the upcoming election. Two, he is dedicated to ripping into Dean.

I suppose part of him believes that after his years of service he deserves this. That might be why he has it in for Dean (besides the obvious conflict that both men want to be President).

2. Why are you surprised?
Supporters of other candidate here on DU quote Faux news, NewsMax and Drudge all the time when they wish to attack Gov. Dean.
