Tweety tonite said this race is looking a lot like the one in 2000! |
|
I know it's close like the one in 2000, but I don't see it quite the same way. The race in 2000 HAD BUSH AHEAD IN THE POLLS before the election. In the week before the election, a couple of polls had them tied, but MOST polls had Bush clearly ahead, one by 5 points. Two weeks before the election, several polls had Bush clearly ahead, I think.
Yeah, they're both VERY CLOSE. But this time Bush isn't 5 or more points ahead in several polls two weeks before the election. I don't see that this one is AS close as the one in 2000.
So, what, just because they're close, and just because this one will probably end in lawsuits, also, that makes them the same? I don't think so! Kerry is actually LEADING or tied in the battleground state polls, and is leading or tied in several of the national polls (which I don't think mean much, anyway), AND there's an incumbent with a below 50% job approval rating average! That makes them very different, IMO.
But the more they're the same, the more excitement they generate, and the more viewers they get?

2. Both close. Both a Vietnam Vet who served in the US Senate |
|
vs. George W. Bush. Both times we probably won't know the result on Election Night.
Crooked Republican disenfranchisement in both elections (the people in Florida wrongly labelled "suspected felons" in 2000 still can't vote).
Chris Matthews says a lot of awful things, but this isn't one of them.

6. Yeah, well what does Tweety know? This is going to be unlike |
|
any election in recent memory. Kerry is going to blow out Bush so bad! So bad! Dems have been itchin' to give it to Bush for years and now it's payback time. I'll be disappointed if Kerry doesn't easily break 300 EVs. :bounce:

7. The difference is that that was an open election |
|
Both candidates were unknown then. There is an incumbant this time. Undecideds will break for the challenger.

If he says it's going to be close, I predict Kerry in a landslide.

10. After the election... |
|
I hope people remember all the stupid things that pundits said in the last two or three weeks of this campaign, like Tony Blankely saying Kerry's lesbian comment was the equivalent of Ford's Eastern Europe gaffe and will cost him the election.
No, not 2000. It's more like 1980. And it will not be close.

11. Matthews was soooo smug on The Daily Show last time when he said, |
|
"They want to come on my show. They'll be back." (Speaking of Zell Miller and the like.) Well, you know what? After this election is over, I hope every last Democrat ignores Hardball completely. Make Matthews irrelevant. Let the air out of him. Frankly, out of all of them except Keith Olbermann. I would LOVE to see either Kerry or Edwards on Keith's show. Maybe we'd hear the noise as Tweety exploded from jealousy and frustration. First The Daily Show and then Countdown. But no Hardball. Awwwww!

He's right that once again the majority of Americans will vote for Bush's opponent.
